Teclast X16 Pro Windows Benchmarks, Gaming & 4k Test Plus Thermals.

Teclast X16 Pro Windows Benchmarks, Gaming & 4k Test Plus Thermals.

As I work through all my benchmarks and tests of the X16 Pro for the full written review you can at least see some of the results now in the below video. My X16 Pro written review should be a week or so off before it’s online. I’ll be flying to New Zealand soon for a months break, but I’ll still be reviewing tablets there. Hopefully, I’ll have the Chuwi Hi8 Pro and the Hi10 finally to review when I arrive. After they have both been delayed countless times.

Many of you are interested in the thermals of the X16 Pro. Well, it looks as if Teclast just used the same heat shield/spreader as the X98 Pro. The Atom X5 Z8500 reaches 85 degrees C when pushing it hard gaming and charging at the same time. Throttling accrued and I could feel the X16 Pro slow a little once this did happen.

As a result, some of the benchmarks in Windows are at Z8300 levels due to this. Not good to see, the odd thing is in Android temps never go over 45 degrees and it performs great without any throttling the whole time I have used the tablet in Android.

So if you still do plan to get this tablet and you’re not afraid to open it up, the X16 Pro could do with a copper heatsink mod. I still don’t understand why Teclast hasn’t added a thicker heatsink to address this issue.  Who’s to blame? Intel’s reference design must have had specifications for the heatsink required to keep the X5 Z8500 Cherry Trail cool. Remember the X5 Z8500 ASUS Transformer Book T100HA I had suffers from the same heat issue and throttling.

I’m glad I only got the Pro version and not the higher clocked and more powerful X16 Power with an Atom X7 Z8700 with 8GB of Ram. That must either have another heat spreader/heatsink design on it, or throttle like crazy!

  1. Chris,
Since the Windows version of the X16 Pro gets too hot, can you also show us how to replace the heat sink like what you did on the Cube i9?
This will make the X16 Pro an amzing tablet
    Thank you

  2. Chris have you performe the test with the plastic sticker on the back of the tablet ? It’s maybe not the best for thermal issue no ?

  3. Chris, do you have plan to do a tutorial for thermal mod of the X16 pro ?
    Thanks

  4. Im wondering about cancelling my
chuwi HI10 order and getting one of these. How is the bettery life on this beast?

  5. Hi,
Does someone have tested the stylus on the Teclast X16 Pro/Power and can just tell us if it’s good or not ?
    Thanks
    Ben

    • To me, as a first time stylus user, the stylus is super sensitive and gives great user feedback and the buttons on the pen that mimics left and right mouse clicks works as it should, but, trust that info from a more seasoned stylus user as I’m only using the stylus for drawing purposes.

  6. Hallo,
I just got mine few days ago, do you know which Microsd cards (maximal size possible) work well with? I tried a sandisk 128gb and it crashes while writing to it, I tested the card on another laptop and it worked perfectly.
ordered a 64gb sandisk, hope atleast this would work.

    • That’s worrying.. I bought a Sandisk 128gb especially for my next tablet.

    • I have a Samsung 128GB SDHC Class 10 formatted to Fat32 and the card is being read on both OS’s

  7. It’s nice but unfortunately I need an integrated 3G 🙁

  8. BTW, very interesting video that shows the production of Teclast tablets inside the factory (P98 in this case):

  9. I think we need to address Microsoft to figure out why the exact same device reach such high temperatures in windows 10 as opposed to Android. Something is not right here. I think Microsoft are interested as well because lately they are pushing hard to replace Android in the tablets market. I have some contacts in Microsoft, maybe they can forward a message to the right people.

  10. nice, but what about the pipo w1s? everyone seems to have forgotten about it…

  11. Hi techtablets it is possible to charge this tablets with the micro usb connector ?

    • No, he mentioned it in the unboxing article. I was interested as well.

    • No, but the DC connector is 5V so an USB charger adapter cable might work as well (depending on diameter and polarity of the DC connector):
      http://www.ebay.de/itm/USB-Ladekabel-KABEL-fur-odys-Xelio-10Pro-10-pro-tablet-cable-charger-LADEGERAT-/370804311817

      • Yes, but the micro usb is 2.4amp and the dc connector is 3.5amp, the difference is low, and the x16 have just 500mah of battery more than the x98, x98 have not dc connector.

        (Sorry my english is bad)

        • The maximal current (A, Ampere, amp) is only relevant for the loading duration.
A 8.5 Ah (=8.500 mAh) Battery will be recharged in 8.5 hours with a 1 A charger, in 4.25h with a 2 A charger, in 17 hours with a 500 mA charger and so on.
Afaik the Teclast X16 pro comes with a 5 Volt 2 Ampere charger. So you can replace the Teclast charger with any other USB charger plus adapter cable. USB is always 5 Volts but you have to make sure that diameter and polarity of the DC plug fit for the tablet.

          • Ok, but the x16 have 5V 3.5amp (Unboxing video), i have a no name chinese tablet with dc connector and i can still charge it with micro usb connector, why we can not do the same on the x16.

  12. If you put x16 pro and x98 pro together, which one would you prefer if you consider the price difference for about 30 euros.

I already ordered x16 pro for 235 EUR and I’m not scared about thermal issue because it will not be used for heavy gaming, especially not for 1 hour or more. I just hope it will last for 2 years without some hardware issues.

  13. CPU cooling system SUx, then windows SUx….

  14. Does it reach also such high temperatures just playing videos?

    Thanks

  15. Windows SUX. Period. 😀
