check what it’s working and what’s not in Linux mint … with chuwi hi10 Linux Mint have the default resolution of 1200×1920 and there is no any way to change it to 800×600 …
What do you mean no way to change the screen resolution?
August 13, 2016 at 4:55 am #46618I’ve tried to get it working but i couldn’t. More details on thread @Mint Linux forums
I was just reading there is a lot of audio changes in the next kernel 4.8 and some are related to Bay-Trail and Cherry-Trail Atom, so hopefully this is fixed for many tablets. I made a post on the Linux Mint forum how to intall the 4.8-rc1 (release candidate) if you want to test it.

August 13, 2016 at 5:52 am #46623Some evidence about the rumor of kernel 4.8 to better support Cherry-Trail Atom…
Will Linux support Microsoft’s Surface 3 tablet in the upcoming version 4.8 release?August 13, 2016 at 6:51 pm #46715AnonymousInactive- Posts: 77
I successfully repaired the Android install via flashing.
I just tried to run the regular update followed by the just-released Anniversary update.
The MS Win 10 Update Assistant is a little quirky, not seeing adequate space when there was plenty.
Tried to run Windows Update Cleanup & it stalled.
Tried to reboot and it stalled.
Any ideas, please?
EDIT1: Impatient … I forced the issue by pulling most of the space out of the “D” partition & returning it to “C” … Update is running now … will report back as to how it does in a while … I’ve read it’s 1-2 hours with multiple reboots & hopefully no hiccups …
EDIT2: Well, yeah, it took a while … toggled-off most of the default MS snooping & hand-holding debris … even though I have no plans to use the MS Win10 version of windows. Now to run a fresh Macrium Reflect backup – then to revisit Linux …
August 14, 2016 at 12:41 am #46765If you guys want Linux to run correctly on your Chuwi or other Cherry-Trail tablet, you really should test out the 4.8 kernel. That way the problems can get reported back and maybe fixed in time for the final release, I think in October. Directions here: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=226613#p1201808
I’m not sure how this can be done on a Live-USB drive though. I’m trying to find out if there is any way that’s not too painful.August 14, 2016 at 1:19 am #46770AnonymousInactive- Posts: 77
I’m waiting for y’all to debug the kernel-mod process.
I simply have too many irons in the fire here to get my head around that without paint-by-numbers.
I’m happy to test but don’t want to fuss with poorly-documented flashing processes & uncooperative partitioning just now (neither was your doing).
August 14, 2016 at 3:59 pm #46810My first attempt at installing Kernel 4.8 did not work. For some reason the grub menu did not get updated and I’m still booting into kernel 4.7 by default. Also, creating a persistent mode Live-USB I’ve not gotten to work yet. Not sure what I’m doing wrong. If/when I figure them both out, I’ll make a how-to post. Anyone else got either of those two things working (K4.8 and persist mode USB)?

August 17, 2016 at 11:05 pm #47153Anything helpful here?

First one no. I’d never download a kernel from an unofficial source for what should be obvious reasons.
Second link uses the correct kernel source but as they said in the post, they followed the directions and the USB would not boot. That was my experience with those same directions.
I did ask the question how to upgrade the kernel on a live-USB drive and got a couple answers which I have not tried out yet…

I know this is dated 2014 but thought I might try it to prep my just-acquired 64G USB stick.

WDYT?
August 18, 2016 at 11:03 pm #47308@DavidC and others seeking Linux run in Live-USB PERSISTANT file storage mode. I just posted about a Linux distribution (Antix-16) which you might like to try out. It has persistent mode built in and so you don’t have to install to HD if you don’t want… http://techtablets.com/forum/topic/zero-install-linux-live-usb-boot-mode-with-persistent-file-storage/
September 2, 2016 at 10:08 pm #48668Small bit of advancement perhaps? One guy on the LM forum has his Hi12 touchscreen working (sometimes)… which may help us to diagnose the problem.
I’ve updated the thread with some info I hope helps… https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=223426&p=1210552#p1210552September 4, 2016 at 3:03 pm #48819Hi, Do we have any advance with Linux in Hi10? I am very interested but now I see a lot of information mix with Hi12 and I don’t understand too much. thanks

So far, the best I have seen working is Ubuntu 16.04 (with default Unity desktop) and updated kernel 4.7 and you have to build the WiFi driver and touchscreen driver yourself.. which is working around 9 out of 10 startups. I would guess the Hi10 will work the same as the Hi12. Once we know it’s working solidly I might build the drivers and provide them for people to download and will create easy to follow install directions.
