Comparison: Cube iwork12 Vs Chuwi Hi12

Comparison: Cube iwork12 Vs Chuwi Hi12

The comparison many of you have been asking for, both of these 12″ tablets are very similar with the exact same specs, Atom X5 Z8300, 4GB DDR3L 1600Mhz RAM, 64GB eMMC, Wireless N. And both run Android 5.1 and Windows 10 Home.

The key differences are stylus support, their screens and battery life. I won’t go into benchmarks as they both perform about the same in 3DMark, Geekbench 3, PCMark 7 and even the eMMC’s offer similar speeds and this can vary from unit to unit as both manufacturers use different brands of eMMC so that depends on the batch you get.

I quickly compare them in the below video:

Reasons to get the Hi12 over the iWork12:

  • $30 to $40 Cheaper
  • Far superior 2160 x 1440 Samsung PLS display (Ex Surface Pro 3 display)
  • 3:2 ratio screen
  • Better battery life in Android and Windows. (11,000 mAh battery Vs the 9,000 mAh in the Cube)
  • Active Stylus support
  • One more full sized USB port
  • Transformer style keyboard.

Reasons to get the iwork12 instead of the Hi12:

  • Slightly more fluid in Android and Windows due to lower resolution of 1920 x 1200
  • Focaltech touch screen is more responsive and accurate Vs the Goodix digitizer on the Hi12.
  • Two position kickstand
  • Better build quality and quality control.
  • Better speakers (louder and clearer)
  • High-quality type cover style keyboard

  1. Ello.

Was just wondering about z8300’s in general.
How long does it take to open microsoft word and excel.
To edit a word document, and a spreadsheet.

Would be great to see in on a video, just to get the feel for how long it takes.

Doesn’t necessarily have to be the hi12, could be any z8300.

  2. Why do you rate the Chuwi Hi12 better then the iWork12 ?

    • Why? Better screen, battery life, cheaper, stylus support & more ports etc

      • Do you also recommend the chuwi hi12 ($290) over the Chuwi hibook ($225), hibook pro ($165) and Pipo W1S ($205)? If not which one you will get between them and why? Is the stylus a must?

I will use it for bedroom (browsing) usage and Steam In Home Streaming for games (will get a usb to ethernet adaptor).

        Thank you.

        • The prices are:
          Pipo W1S $205
          Chuwi Hi12 $285
          Hibook pro $240
          Hibook $225
          Ondaobook10 $195
          Tbook10 $195

  3. I bought both lthechewi h 12 and cube 10 (the cube 12 wasn’t available when I bought these) because I had trouble getting the chewi h12 to work… I returned 3 units… the build quality on the 12 is just awful the swing of the screen on the hinge is almost 30%.
… so it’s very awkward to use in the lap or in any other environment with a mobile setting.
I do like the screen quality but the cube10 is just a perfect size it fits into a smaller shoulder bag nicely and it travels well but yes the battery life is low

The build quality of the cube10 is far better than the chewy 12

I like both units but the chili I 12 is just huge it’s hard to carry it’s heavy and it doesn’t store well

They both provide desktop plug-ins for large monitors if you prefer or I simply use the Google Chromecast dongle when I want to have a large display in a big room

I’m planning on keeping both computers at this point but I rarely use the chewi hi12 anymore except as a Kindle reader

  5. Hang on a minute. Kickstand plus for iWork12? The keyboard dock is a HUGE plus for the hi12 because it actually allows you to use it as a LAPtop not a table-top. Being restricted to table use is an enormous negative. Yes the Hi12 keyboard sucks in terms of QC and strength, I’m hoping the metal keyboard improves that. If they pull that off it will be absolutely no contest between the two IMO.

  6. No mention of Goodix vs Focaltech touch panel? Part of my decision to get the Cube was the use of a superior Focaltech panel, was there any difference in practical use?

The kickstand is very convenient also; the ability to change from tablet to propping on the table or lap is very nice without needing to reach for a third party kickstand. I adjust this quite often, and will open and close this without thinking, it’s automatic.

The build quality and issues with the Hi12 worried me also; a lot of QC issues with questionable support from Chinese suppliers. The Cube feels quite premium, which is nice.

If the Cube had the Chuwi screen, it would be the best of both worlds. That being said, I have no problems with the current screen; another review at xda developers swayed me with “Even when compared to top offerings such as the Microsoft Surface Pro 3, the Cube iWork 12 doesn’t pale in comparison in the display department. And you can’t really tell the difference in pixel density from a normal using distance.”, although he did mention glare, which I also noticed.

    • That should have been mentioned in the video and the stylus. It was late 🙁 But yes the focaltech screen is much better for touch the Goodix. I did mention this in both Android and Windows Cube iwork12 reviews.

As a Surface Pro 4 user myself I do like the iwork12’s kickstand it’s very handy and I use it alot. You mean grain? Or glare?

      • I mean glare (reflection, glossy screen). I’m used to my matte laptop screen, so the difference is apparent.

  7. Unfortunately Chuwi’s quality control seems so poor, there are a lot of faulty units according to various forums, including this one. It’s a pity because Chuwi’s screen looks awesome.

  8. Well, imo considering third party air keyboards on the market for a much lesser price, keyboard dock is a completely nonsense purchase. Also it’s a very impractical as the device looses mobility. Kickstand is also a pretty useless thing imo, as it has only one position. $5 third party kickstand is a much better solution imo. Tablet speakers are a joke too, even the best one. Again, any decent third party speaker will do the job a much better job. In transport you will use headphones anywayz. Screen resolution can always be lowered to a lesser values. For me even FHD on such a small screen is a battery waste. Would choose Hi12 over Iwork12 hands down.
At home I use i7 Stylus placed on a cheap kickstand and paired with a 24″ Dell monitor via HDMI , bluedio bs2 external speaker and third party full sized keyboard + mouse set.
