Chuwi Lapbook SE Now Available, Dropped to $259.99

Update: Latest video from IFA 2018 updated in this post it’s in English and confirms the Lapbook SE has HDMI 2.0 support for 4k 60hz and not 4k 30hz like the Lapbook Air. Now, all we need to do is get Chuwi to release an 8GB model, 4GB is a deal breaker for many of us!

Chuwi’s new Lapbook Air Apollo Lake upgrade, the Lapbook SE with a faster Intel Celeron N4100 Gemini Lake is now available according to Chuwi. This model, if you’ve missed the coverage on the site here, has an edge to edge keyboard MacBook 12 look about it with a fully laminated 13.3″ IPS screen. Which could well be the same screen I reviewed in the Corebook Core M3-7Y30 tablet. It has a metal body and that keyboard is even backlit.

There is 32GB of eMMC storage, but the main storage is an M.2 128GB SSD and it has sadly only 4GB of DDR4 RAM it’s only real weakness on paper. This Windows 10 Home laptop has an Intel wireless AC 3165 card, BT 4.1, 2 x USB 3.0 ports, HDMI out, MicroSD reader and D/C 12V 2A charging. The touchpad also looks large and thanks to below video we get a look at it finally on video, a non-promo video that is. It weighs 1.4 kilos and has a 10,000mAh battery or 37Wh. So battery life should be around the 6-7 hours + mark.

The Chuwi Lapbook SE is now just $259.99 at Gearbest on a limit flash, making it cheaper than the other N4100 laptops like the Teclast F5 and Jumper EZbook X4. I hope to have my Lapbook SE next week for review, so stay tuned for that!

  1. Hi Chris,

Can you do a review/round up, on charging/docking hubs that support the 4K 60hz output? Even if someone doesn’t have one of the latest laptops, it would help them future proof if they are going to get one.

The initial unboxing review you did on this was very good, it seems like the manufacturers are getting back to the value market instead of leaving people wondering why they should buy something with no warranty or support for the same price as a name brand. The price point for this is great, but I’m looking forward to the Teclast F5 comparison. If only AlldoCube would get theirs released sometime in the next 6 months, there could be a real selection of choices.

  2. First unboxing here https://youtu.be/K3SWhMI-XDA

  3. can someone confirm the display is 16:10
or is it a typo in the specification card in the video?!?

  4. Sure about 10,000mAh battery? Not 5000 mah?

  5. If those Chinese manufacturers can stop making notebooks so Macbook lookalike, those notebooks would sell far better honestly. They really need to declare their own style and design language.

    • I agree with this 100%, but I think people in China seem to like more the Apple design so copy it.

      • If they could copy a Thinkpad, Carbon and maybe offer other language keyboards, that would be nice 😉

    • That sound like Apple is the only one who can make ultrabooks or beautiful laptops. Apple was the first, but at some point someone else would have done it.

Can the rest only aspire to make the typical ugly, fat and heavy notebooks?

I love this laptops model, small, light and beautiful. I hope other brands stop making old-type laptops.

I think this product has a problem with screen quality compared to Lapbook Air… Waiting for Chris’s review.

    • Hi, thanks for that video in English. I’ll add it to the post. I’m not sure about the screen from just that video but it might be a little dull? I will measure if it’s over 250 lux all good. Also, note they confirmed HDMI 2.0 support just like the Jumper EZBook X4

    • I have the Lapbook Air and I thought about changing mine for this one because the change came out for free when selling mine, since I loved the keyboard that they put in this and the trackpad seems bigger, in addition to the 2.5D screen.

But it does not compensate to import from China. Get lucky with the customs inspection, that does not arrive with any failure.

Also, the power is almost the same, less RAM, smaller screen and now this you say that the quality of the screen is worse…

  7. Thanks for the update!
Do you know when they are expected to start shipping these out?

  8. Just 4GB RAM (not expandable) is a major drawback. In 2018 you just can’t sell laptops with RAM as much as your phone. Maybe a revision will correct this huge flaw.

    • So TRUE !!!!! With 6 or best 8GB I’ll have oredered it already….

      • Yes.. The next update (Confirmed in fb page) with 8gb ram

        • my wife has been hinting at wanting a new laptop to replace her hulking 15.6″ laptop, as a christmas present, so one of these would probably be ideal with 8GB.

    • Yes if it’s good then I hope they do the wise thing and release an 8GB version. So far we only have the Teclast F5 with 8GB of RAM and this Celeron N4100 CPU from the Chinese brands,

      • Yes, but 11.6″ is so small… these 14″ are very good imo on the usability/volum ratio….
