Coming Soon – More Tablets, Mini PC’s & Gemini Lake

There’s plenty coming on the site and YouTube, if you missed it I checked out the new Intel Gemini Lake J4005 Mini PC  a 10W dual core with 2.7Ghz max turbo, HDMI 2.0 output x 2, DDR4 2400Mhz support and a 2.5″ HDD/SSD bay. My first hands-on with the Gemini Lake shows a nice step up in power around 30% more according to the Geekbench 4 score compared to the J3455 Apollo Lake.

Most of the benefit moving to Gemini Lake from the Apollo Lake is the RAM speed moving from 1600Mhz DDR3 to 2400Mhz in RAM speed is a big jump. This mostly benefits the integrated Intel UHD Graphics a since it uses shared system memory, expect around 30% more FPS in certain titles. I did notice that Counter-Strike and League of Legends run much smoother.  Other improvements are 1mb more of CPU cache over the Apollo Lake, bringing the total to 4Mb cache, HDMI 2.0 and possible integration of gigabit wireless AC like the Intel 9260.

I’ll be reviewing the J5005 Pentium silver version of Intel’s NUC which I should have on Friday or Monday, this is really similar to the N4100 or N5000 Gemini Lake’s we are going to see soon in laptops and tablets next month. This SoC, the Pentium J5005 is quad core with a max turbo of 2.8Ghz. The Pentium N5000 has a max turbo of 2.7 GHz and if we can unlock the power limit expect similar performance on Pentium N5000 tablets and laptops.

And the image above, this is my Aliexpress $328 Core i5 8350U mini PC, with NVMe slot, DDR4 slots, display out, HDMI 2.0, Wireless AC. I’m working on a hands-on video of this one. It’s very fast for the size.

And this week I hope to get the Voyo Vbook i5, the keyboard and stylus have already arrived. And maybe even the AllDoCube X1 Deca-core Helio X20 powered 8.4″ Android tablet.

As for the Gemini Lake laptops and tablets. Mid to late May they will finally be coming out. We have a Jumper 11.6″ Yoga book convertible with Gemini Lake N4100 coming then, Teclast and Onda are expected to also launch new Celeron N4100 laptops in May.
