Update 20th Feb: Due to Chuwi reaching one of their crowdfunded goals the Ubook’s type-cover style keyboard has been upgraded to a wider backlit keyboard with 15-20% larger keys. So it has a narrow bezel and better travel on the keys however the touchpad looks a bit shorter now. You can see the difference below from the old design to the new improved one. Not only that the new keyboard will have leather on the back and high-quality materials.
The Ubook is a Core M3-6Y30 2-in-1 tablet from Chuwi with 8GB of RAM and up to 1TB of SSD storage. You can find the Kickstart campaign here. The tablet should start shipping out in April.
The Kickstarter is now live, first orders get the laptops with keyboard and stylus for $349 (8GB 128GB SSD version) It’s due to ship in April.
Chuwi’s latest tablet is coming via a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign and it’s called the Ubook. It’s the successor you could say to the Chuwi Surbook with a more powerful Core M3 chipset. But it’s running a 6th gen Core M3-6Y30 which isn’t exactly the newest, no native VP9 or HEVC decoding, but yes it’s much more powerful than the Apollo Lake N3450 in the Surbook and it has more RAM, 8GB. It will also have 128GB to 1TB of 2280 of M.2 SSD storage and upgradeable to the user via a hatch.
The tablet has stylus support with 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity and a 150 degree U kickstand where the tablet gets the name. It supports a type-cover style keyboard that’s backlit and the screen is 11.6″ 1080p IPS fully laminated.
Other specs include:
- USB 3.0 x 2
- Micro HDMI
- Type-C port (unknown spec)
- D/C charging
- 3.5mm headphone jack
- 9mm thin
- MicroSD slot
- Windows 10 Home
- Intel Wireless AC
- 760 grams weight
- 30.4 Wh battery
It looks all very well, but I really wish it had a Core M3-8100Y the newer 8th gen chip. But the price does seem good, $349 USD with the keyboard and stylus for early backers. Is 14nm stock from Intel so bad Chuwi has to go with old CPU’s?
