Honor MagicBook Ryzen 5 2500U Version $699 14″ Laptop

Thanks to those that pointed this one out to me, the Huawei Honor MagicBook has been out for some time with the Intel 8th Gen Core chips. But there is also this cheaper $699 version that has the Ryzen 5 2500U octa-core chipset in it with Vega 8 integrated GPU. It has 8GB of DDR4 2400Mhz RAM, 256GB SSD, wireless AC 2×2 like the base M iNotebook Pro I have, but this is around $200 cheaper and it’s smaller too at 14 inches with a 1920 x 1080 IPS panel with a touchscreen option for an additional $200.

It runs Windows 10 Home, has 4 speakers are a 57Wh battery which is actually quite a good size for a 14″ laptop and if you take into consideration the 15.6″ Mi Notebook Pro has a 60Wh battery. For ports, it has HDMI 1.4 (Shame it’s not HDMI 2.0 spec)  a USB 3.0 port and USB 2.0. SD card reader. It weighs 1.45 kilos and is 15.8mm thick. And like the Mi Notebook Pro it does come with a backlit keyboard. My only real concern is the cooling, just one fan so hopefully, it will not throttle when both CPU and GPU are pushed.

Overall it looks like a nice, cheaper option to the Mi Notebook Pro and but note the Radeon Vega 8 is around 20-30% if not more, slower than the Nvidia MX150. I’ve had about 4-5 requests to review this one. What do you think? Be nice to test an AMD chip for a change!
