You definitely want to do the heat sink mods, too.  The heat sink mods should be done even if you do not add a 4G modem or replace the M.2 drive.  Posts in this thread report that normal use will discolor the LCD on the X2 Pro.

The antenna is for specific RF bands.  The modem is matched (tuned) to the antenna and to a given country’s 4G bands.  CN is different from US is different from EU is different from IN is different from BR, etc.  The modem has two connections.  One antenna is 4G and one antenna is GPS.
