the sorce is google, i just read it yesterday, bios without internal or external battery have its own image stored and enough cash to store and keep the settings, actually i knew that but if you really need to know, https://www.google.co.il/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=/amp/www.instructables.com/id/How-to-clear-BIOS-info/%253Famp_page%253Dtrue&ved=0ahUKEwjv8taW_uXQAhVMDsAKHRO6CBgQFggYMAA&usg=AFQjCNEf358KBqqrJOHuP00VQN4V6YsuQQ&sig2=PsJfGAj__8X3QGjEkjWpCw

Do you write scripts for NCIS by any chance?

My advice to anyone in this position remains: do not short out any pins on the flash chip if you want to maximise your chances of getting it working again. Since these cheap devices are still usefull to have despite their shortcomings I don’t see why anyone would take an unneccessary risk with them but then again I like to use hardware for as long as possible to reduce electronic waste.

For anyone who has changed BIOS settings that still let them boot Windows but not get back into BIOS setup there is potentially a fix that doesn’t involve opening the case at all by the way.

That’s the last I intend to say on this topic 🙂

Hi. I recently ordered a YEPO 737S from gearbest. Yesterday I first opened it and it does not power on. There is a blue light blinking when charger is plugged in and there is a beeping also. I contacted gearbest and they asked me to do this:

    1) Charge the device for at least 6 hours and see if the device powers on normally: please try to charge using the mains AC and also via USB.
    2) If this does not work, please use a needle to carefully press the pinhole-shaped hole on the side of the tablet to perform a factory reset.

    3) The supplier makes an energy-saving protection function for this tablet. After the power of tablet runs out and automatically powers off, the tablet automatically starts energy-saving protection function, so tablet has no response of charging and can’t be powered on.

We need long press the Power button to wake up the battery.

Please connect the power, then long press the Power button above 30 ~ 50 seconds, and recharge 10 ~ 15 minutes, the tablet can be powered on.

Or you can try to reset the system from the link :https://mega.nz/#!xwREyYzD!YohI5bq5Y_ePSxolGJYD6ijJA9Fo_TqAHc6MLHi_uBc

I already charged it a few hours with no success. I tried to do a fcatory reset but I do not think those small holes on the side are reset buttons, because I saw a video saying they are for microphone. Also tried option number 3, but no success. The last option they sent me must have been a joke because that could only work if I could get to access bios which is not the case… Any ideas? Thanks for all the help guys

Someone posted you could short pins 7 & 8 on the bios chip itself to reset it. I’ve never tried this. Ask gearbest first for a replacement or return it for a one, it’s clearly faulty before you open it.

Thx for your help Chris. At this point I will not open the laptop although I am tempted! Doing this will void the warranty so I guess I will just have to wait for gearbest support to propose a decent solution for my case…

It´s alive! Lol. I eventually was able to power it on but it keeps shutting down after a few secs. Watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qp8ar0V333Y

Afterwards i got a red blinking light… Boot is random right now. sometimes it boots but not always…

Daniel, it looks like a dodgy battery to me because (from what I’ve seen of your videos) the device dies when not on mains power. I don’t think your issue has anything to do with the BIOS, if this device is typical of other Chinese hardware you wouldn’t even get a flashing charge light if anything was seriously wrong with BIOS os BIOS settings.

Chris, the person who suggested that later changed his mind on the pins and frankly it’s a bad idea either way. I suspect he’s a troll, either that or it’s possible to be an IT manager for 15 years and not know what cache is or understand information redundancy…

Hi Jonathan. Thank you for trying to Help me out. Since my last video I entered BIOS and loaded optimal settings and after that I have not noticed any audio or video problems. One thing I noticed was that Windows says battery is completely charged but I doubt it. I need to find a way to reset the battery percentage so I can try todos completely charge the battery

Straza, yes power off and remove anything you can (leads/SD cards etc). I highly recommend unplugging the battery or desoldering the red lead.
There’s a good guide for the Chuwi Hi12 that I’ll try and find later, in the meantime:
Attach the clip with the programmer disconnected from the other computer.
Read back the flash first, your Windows key is in there somewhere and you might need it one day.
    You then erase and write/verify.
When up and running image the drive and use an activation backup program.

Daniel, first thing first go to Gearbest and see what they offer. It’s faulty enough to ask them. I think the video issues were just transient glitches, possibly due to the power issue.

Jerry, I don’t sell any hardware to anyone (except the occasional prototype hardware that I’ve designed). I’ve discouraged the purchase of Chinese tablets when appropriate and also, in other threads, gone to quite a bit of trouble to help people avoid the need to directly program the flash chip at all (since that too is quite risky). If you are not a troll then I apologise but I would expect a better understanding of the issues here from someone with only a fraction of the experience that you claim to have. You are advocating short circuiting an output pin from the SoC, I am going to advise against that if I see someone contemplating it.

This is a good guide, since it’s for a different device obviously substitute the BIOS file for the one for your tablet and adjust dismantling steps as required. I would read back the BIOS before erasing it and please note that the device might not pass the blank check if there are ptotected pages, don’t worry if that happens.

Oh and make sure you identify the flash chip, there can be other ICs with the same package on the board so look up the number online before trying to program it.
