Hello! I’m also watting for one.

Afaik it doesn’t have dual boot with Android but you can do it yourself or use an emulator, looks like Memu works nice.

I’ll watch this post because I want to know similar stuff.

    Hi,
I think that you don’t have to do a “clean” installation, I bought it on Gearbest too. I use it for week now and all is right out of the box (exept 2 shortcuts on the desktop all seems to be clean). If you’re not english you have to change language in settings and that’s all. Do the updates may take some days if you let the systeme do it itself or go to updates and make it manually till the anniversary update (you will see a new icon on taskbar with a Pen).
I use it for some works (3d printing) and a little for gaming a lot of recent games are playables in low graphics but playable, and i love retro gaming, i use dolphin to play wii games and it’s really fun, if you are aware with open your tablet do the thermal mod it’s the only thing i will recommend to you for gaming.
To add easily bases sofwares you can ask “ninite” to google and follow steps, it will automaticaly install the programs you have selected.
    Have fun with your tablaptop!?

and sorry for my english, it’s not my native language

    Hey Katagirl,

Thanks for the Memu tip – I thought the i7 had dual boot but I think I have probably watched so many chinese tablet reviews that they have all started to blur into one! What sort of stuff will you be using your tablet for?

    Hey Raoul,

This is really reassuring thank you! I will try and get it to update to anniversary when it arrives then. Also great to hear that it can handle a bit of gaming as I have been trying to keep my expectations low. It hadn’t even occurred to me to emulate wii games… what ones are you playing? Do you play with a controller?

I have read about the thermal mod, but I don’t think I would have the skill to do this myself. I am worried I would just break the case trying to get it open. How did you get on with doing it? Was it something you have experience of doing?

I was wondering if I just bought a case for the tablet if it would provide a basic barrier to the heat so I could just ignore how hot it gets…

Also ninite I forgot about that site! very useful. Thanks!

    Dan,

I’ve some experience with screen replacement but the thermal mod is not such a thing, I will try to make a video of how you can open it. a plastic card (like a credit card) and a metal spudger (or something similar) is enough, then a little bit of patiente is necessary. the tablet could be hot, a case will be good if you play with the tablet in your hands.
For wii games i tried donkey kong country returns and new super mario, both are full playable (50fps) with good graphics, see attached picture (fps in little on uper left corner), I don’t know if real 3d games are playable. Game cube works too, i’m playing metal gear solid twin snakes that evening with very good graphics. I play with a bluetooth controler (ipega 9023 on attached picture too) but ps3 pad in usb works too. I also try pc games as homeworld desert of kharak, roller coaster tycoon world. I have to try gta V but all the others games are on my usb 3.0 key and I’ll prefer put gta on the ssd, i will do that when i upgrade the system ssd, perhaps in january. I don’t have overclock the tablet to pmay, perhaps if i found a game that need the tweak but for now all is good without.

I’ll also try remix and linux (mint or ubuntu) indual or triple boot when my ssd will be upgraded

Hi Raoul, that would be amazing thank you!

There are loads of gamecube games I have always wanted to play, I can’t wait to play around with emulators when it arrives. Also that controller is amazing! I didn’t realise you could get controllers like that – I will be ordering one of those now 🙂

An SSD upgrade would be good, I might have to look into that also in the future. I bought a 32gb samsung sd card – but would a usb 3.0 key be faster for loading games off etc?

Dan, I’ll be using it to watch videos and general stuff like Facebook, email and work outside home, I work as an independent consultant for Appen and Lionbridge, it’s just text and my laptop is a little heavy to take everywhere. Maybe I’ll emulate Android to use some apps I like.

Raoul, the thermal mod is a nice tip but I don’t think I’m savvy enough… I don’t intent to game, I already have a nice desktop for that but I live in Rio de Janeiro with extremely high temperatures, I think I’ll show the video to my brother and pay his company to do for me, they have all materials and, since I’m the sister of one of the bosses, I don’t pay too much. They work really well, I bought my custom desktop from them.

I ordered an i7 book on 11-11 and they have not shipped yet. I sent an email and they said they are unavailable, and did I want a refund or something else.  I asked why did it still, as of today, show pieces available, and they are saying it is unavailable. They said that the manufacturer did not send them their order yet. I asked why they say they’re available and they are not, and all they could say, which I didn’t understand, was that it was for customer reference. I get that they buy bulk and they are heavy in demand, but they should handle the way they present it better. If it is going to take time then it needs some notation on the main info page. like Backorder, or a real accurate ship date. My original ship date was Nov 14-16th . But anyway, how long did other’s here, order take? Thanks

    hi john,
I made my order the 30 October, it was shipped the 3 november and arrive the 15, with express shipping to france. I think it can take up to 4 weeks without express shipping and with the 11.11 huge number of commands it can took more over.

Dan, if you intend to upgrade the ssd, you will have to open the tablet, it’90 % of the thermal mod, think of it!

katagiri, i will upload a video when i will receive my copper shim, for now i’ve just add o thermal pad in it, that does the job but i want to go further.

John, I bought mine from AliExpress, it was shipped in the next day.

Raoul, Thanks for your help. I think I’ll change the SSD as well, I already ordered an adapter to clone the original SSD, I have some SATA cases here already, I just need the4 adapter.

Oh no, I ordered mine more recently than you John and it hasn’t shipped yet. I was hoping to get it by Christmas but based on what you have said I might have a bit of a wait then 🙁

Any recommendations on where to start with SSDs?

    Dan,
I forgot your question about sd card vs usb3, in fact the sd card slot is slow, 45Mb/s for read from it and 20-30Mb/s for writting on it (tests made with real files copy/paste from and on it)
usb 3 key:165 read and 50 write, so for gaming usb3 is better.

I also forget to mention that the dolphin emulator is compatible with original wiimotes and nunchuck, now my cube i7 book is like a nintendo switch (with usbc to hdmi i play on big screen and i can also play anywere!?)

Raoul, that’s really cool! Looks like it’s a very versatile tablet.
