Just Purchased – Anything I need to know going in?

first of all good luck mate ;D , if you are lucky you’ll get a good tablet for the price (but performance aren’t so good for demanding games and apps… nothing to compare to a surface).

if you are not lucky welcome to chuwi hell where support consist in tell you ‘ask for a replacement to your seller’. nothing more.

Hi,

You need to know that the tablet auto shutdown at 30%. I’ve seen many people having this issue and Chuwi just doesn’t care about it. I tried to ask the support but no answer yet…

I’ve had my tablet three days and have not experienced any issues with my machine.  I know it’s a “lottery” to some folks but at the same time I don’t think I would put too much fear into yourself.  People with good results are less likely to post about it and people with a bad experience are FAR more likely to post about it so you can easily get a really really slanted view because of that inherent bias.  Does this mean disregard anyones negative comments?  Certainly not, but I wouldn’t less a handful of unhappy people give you the impression that only 4 or 5 out of 10 units are good.  EVERYONE makes defects, what makes it harder with Chinese direct tablets is that when they do occur how you deal with it can be especially challenging.  I have a Korean IPS import monitor and it was defective from the factory (non functioning physical power button) but I chose to live with it since it’s a minor inconvenience.  That monitor at the time looked as good as a $900 dell or apple monitor and it cost me $300.

So what I mean to say is, just like I wasn’t willing to pay 3x as much for a Dell or Apple monitor you have to ask yourself is the PRICE outweighing the risks?  I actually found the tablet to have good build quality (again, my unit had no defects which is a different element of production).  The backing is solid metal and the front face seems securely mounted with screws and there is little to no flex or creak which is not always the easiest thing to deliver in a tablet of this size.

At the end of the day, you can’t PAY MORE to get a better device then this.  No other device is available that offers true android dual boot (i.e. not emulated), FANLESS design with passive cooling, 4gigs of ram, and 64gigs of storage space.  The alternative is to buy a different tablet that doesn’t have all the features and probably for more money.

I’m going to post a write-up of my unit here in a minute that you might want to take peak at since it seems like we had some similar use case (pdfs)

The dual-boot that you’re getting is also the 2nd generation of this tablet. I’d imagine some of the complaints that people with the Win 10 only models have been ironed out for the dual-boot.

Wow, thanks for the replies.

I was almost ready to cancel the order just to avoid the possible headaches, but then I thought about the same thing John mentioned.  When you read reviews online, you often see those people who just expected way too much or had the rare issue.  Sometimes there is a common problem, and if that is the case you will see these disappear from the market rather quickly.  Even HP killed a tablet within months (I still have an HP Touchpad from the fire sale!)

I am very interested in any review I can get on this so my expectations are real, and so far I think they are.  I am only interested in casual gaming (possibly streaming from my gaming pc while at home), office software, using this to drive power point presentations over Miracast as church,  and to read on.  I am not editing photos or movies, and I am not trying to replace a desktop (See gaming machine above lol).

I figure if Im actually happy with the 8″ dell, then I should be more than happy with this as a simple upgrade to that.  I hope so at least!  I work in IT, and deal with PC and Mac problems for a large luggage company.  I’m pretty comfortable working on this if needed.  I have installed

Games seem to run smoothly as long as they’re not in native resolution since this tablet has such a fantastic screen

I ordered mine on pre-order from geekbuy. I have had it about a month. No problems yet. Changed memory to 1600 from 1067. I use windows 10 more than Android.   The tablet is well made and heavy, the keyboard not so much. It’s plastic , but functional. No problems with it though.

I’ve seen the root and tweak post for android, but what is this about the ram needing to be adjusted?  I thought the advice was to stay out of bios?

Considering this is a big purchase for me and I could incur a lot of fee’s into issues sending it back,  I canceled my order at gear best and ordered with Banggood.  Cost me 20$ more, but with better packaging and someone checking it out to make sure it is good is worth the extra to avoid more room for problems.

After reading Johns review I am also getting more excited about it!

In april ive ordered a hi12 dual os with keyboard ans i have paid for the EMS. I live in germany and it came in time not at home but rather in customs . I thought ok i muss pay the customs fees that wasnt a prob. They made me open tha package, came safe and sound by the way , and they checked everything : absence of german instructions, serial number, producer, model name, order number and so one. By inspecting the tablet they found the capacitive button in form on the small window . 20 seconds later after checking in computer they confiscated the tablet until further notice bc they have to check with microsoft representative if there’s any copyright infringement…. that blow my mind… i was speachless. Does anyone know something about this? Is it possible i will never get my tablet? Should i write to paypal so that i get my money back?

Id like to post a follow up to the original question: Is there any setting changes recommended when first getting the Hi12? A friend of mine got a Teclast tbook and disabled Windows auto update because it was constantly slowing it down. I was just curious what everyone thinks about that and if there’s anything else (besides the 1600 change).

 

Edit: Sorin, I was also wondering if you got yours back from customs?

You should turn off Intel Power management and don’t use Bluetooth at the same time you’re using your WiFi. Install H264ify on Chrome to watch videos as Edge really sucks! 🙂

I like the keyboard, works really well and it has 2 extra USB ports that you can use.

I installed Advance System Care Free and so far so good!

Be aware that sometimes the tablet will not turn on at the first try. You should try a couple of times and if necessary, plug the charger and try to turn it on.

Keep all Microsoft updates. I also use driver booster, but be careful with the sound and WiFi drivers. The most recent ones doesn’t work.

To improve the sound, I installed Equalizer APO with Peace. The sound is far better than stock!

 

Charging takes an eternity, so don’t forget to have a second tablet! 😉
