Randomly powering off under low battery. Battery calibration issue?

Yes, Chris G, it seems that nothing has not changed on the screen of the new BIOS except for the build date and time as kuko61 shows but it works fine at least for the abrupt and random shut off. I have tested and seen all the behaviours throughout my Hi12 Dual OS started at over 70% battery level to safely shut down to hibernate at 2%. Infamous abrupt shut down did not happen. It has been the first time for me since my first day of using it without the abrupt and random shut down in low battery. In addition, I set the RAM speed at 1600 MHz.

 

The unit continued to run without any problems and shifted to the battery saving mode at the battery level 21% and the pop-up window appeared to show low battery level at 6%. The pop-up window appeared again at 4% to give me a warning that the unit needs the power supply to be connected immediately. And at the same time a small red mark in the battery icon in the task bar appeared and started to blink until it stopped blinking at 3%. At the battery level decreased to 2%, the unit automatically and safely performed the shut down process to power itself off.

 

Thanks Emily and Chuwi for this solution though we should take it for granted.

 

I would like to put some memos for all the owners of Hi12 Dual OS who are going to flash theirs with this new BIOS.

 

1. Download the new BIOS file named “Lateset Dualboot Hi12 BIOS（remain KEY, solve wifi disconnet issue).rar.”
2. Unrar it into a folder you like.
3. Connect a USB stick drive to the USB 2.0 port of your Chuwi Hi12 Dual OS.
4. Format the USB stick drive with FAT32. It may not be necessary but I named the USB stick drive as “winpe” just in case. I think the “create bootable” option is of no concern. I formatted it with the built-in format function of Windows10.
5. Copy all the contents inside the unrared folder to the root of the USB stick drive. Please be careful not to copy the unrared folder itself.
6. Reboot your HI12 Dual OS. Press F7 key several times when you see “CHUWI” something on the screen.
7. Select to boot with your USB stick drive. Flashing starts automatically and you can see variety of messages passing away on the screen which include erasing, writing and verifying the data.
8. In my unit, the flashing finished when the screen showed a command prompt as if it wait for some commands to be typed in since I waited for a minute if something happens. It seemed that nothing would not happen. Therefore, I typed in “exit” into the command line and the unit reboot to Windows10 after showing the logo “CHUWI” a few times on the screen as I set my Hi12 Dual OS not to show OS select screen and directly boot into the OS used last time.

 

I cannot certify you the result but it worked perfect as far as I was concerned.

I can also confirmed that I am running on 1600mhz ram and it has not auto-shutdown on me. All seems fine with the new bios.

I have upgraded to new bios 1600mhz and i have no shutdown at 5% battery.

Issue fixed by chuwi.

Yes, it seems to be working, I’m at 36% using 100% brightness and a 1TB drive with the keyboard attached and no powering off (Yet). The bios version looks the same to me. But it must be difference even if the date is the same.

Okay doesn’t work for me. Looked like it did but, 100% brightness booted up clash of clans with 100% volume and it powered off. 🙁

It’s now doing it every time. Not a thing has been fixed for me and it was the new bios or am I missing something? @jaja @kyro What exact bios did you guys flash?

Look at the first page of BIOS, what version of BIOS you have now?
As shown in my screenshots, old BIOS was E4D6_HI-122LP.221 from 22. 3. 2016 (I have tablet only 2 days) and new after flash is E4D6_HI-122LP.223 from 28. 4. 2016.
The name of the new BIOS archive is Lateset Dualboot Hi12 BIOS（remain KEY, solve wifi disconnet issue).rar

READ THIS: Make very SURE you have the correct BIOS for your device. Flashing the wrong BIOS WILL BRICK your device and make it unbootable.
CHECK AGAIN

1. Get an empty USB thumb drive.
2. Format USB drive FAT32, name it WINPE
3. Extract all files and then Copy all the files from the BIOS .rar onto the USB drive. Your USB drive should look like the picture below all files at the root directory.

If your BIOS is already set to boot USB thumb drive as 1st prioroty, then the deivce will go directly to step 5 automatically
4. Boot into BIOS boot manager using F7 key
5. Select and Boot the USB thumb drive
6. New BIOS will be flashed
7. Remove the USB drive once BIOS flash is complete. If you leave it in, then BIOS will be flashed again on boot.

Looks like I flashed the wrong bios! Whoops. Confirmed working perfect now and with 1600Mhz on the RAM speed.

Working just fine now. I drained it right down to 2%, No cutting out on me. For once Chuwi fixed an issue. Now all I need is the HiBook USB ports fixed with another bios update.

The bios default is still set to 1066Mhz, but it’s working fine at 1600Mhz with a nice 10% boost to performance over 1066Mhz.

That’s terrific!  It gives me hope for an update to fix the HiBook USB ports.  Someone else in the Chuwi forum has complained about USB 2.0 speeds too.  Not having any history with Chuwi, right now it seems they’re a good company.  They’re active in social media (responding to posts, etc) and forums.  They release firmware updates to fix problems.  They already fixed a wifi problem on the HiBook, and this with the Hi12.
