Anyone?
August 3, 2016 at 2:02 pm #45468I have wondered about the USB type C capabilities. I’m not sure if it supports USB power delivery.
Chris in another post says he is charging via USB C @ 14 Watt.
He doesn’t specify which charger he is using. In his videos (at least with the Type C hubs he seems to be using something other than an Apple one.

Another DC charger?
Provided you match the Voltage barrel size and tip polarity then any 12 V power supply will work (or be moddable). Matching the current is good.
If you look through the comments to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LL2m2MzQZj0
he says that the supply gives more current than the battery will charge at.
This is to charge the battery at a constant rate and allow the tablet to use ‘full power’
So if a lower current supply (say 1.5A) was used the battery might end up charging quite slow.
August 3, 2016 at 10:04 pm #45512In his review he did say he was using an iVolver 75W USB C charger, and looking at the Amazon listing for this product, it states the USB C port can output 5v, 9v, 15v, or 20v @ 3A. If Chris did say his tablet was charging at 14 watts, then it appears 5v @ 3A would be where it is likely charging at. Earlier I just assumed that the tablet is likely going to take the higher voltages since that’s the closest to the DC charger output, but that may not be the case. If the i7 book doesn’t actually support USB-PD, then the Apple charger is going to output 5.2v @ 2.4A (12.48 watts), which I hope will be sufficient for charging while under load.
I’ve seen a couple of those comments on that video, and it does appear the Cube does charge at a lower amperage, but can consume more when under load and while charging. So far I haven’t had any luck finding a DC charger within the correct output specification from a reputable company or one that has some sort of regulation testing.
August 3, 2016 at 11:12 pm #45524Hmm, slightly off topic,l. If I hook up a 5v 2a power bank to this, it is unlikely to charge due to the power consumption of the tablet. But will it at least attempt to drain from both the internal battery and the power bank? Thus making it last longer.
Or it will be possible to charge it via a power bank when it is off?
Thanks !
August 3, 2016 at 11:16 pm #45526Yes it’s the iVolver 75W USB C charger I’m using and it works really well. I don’t see why the Apple type-C MacBook charger wouldn’t work, originally that’s what I was going to get, but the price here in Spain was too much so I got that one.
@walter-yan Tried that, it offers a zero charge rate using my power packs.Chris | Admin

Ordered and waiting for my: BMAX S15 & Teclast F6 Plus
Currently testing: LG G8X & Redmi K30August 4, 2016 at 12:00 am #45530Chris, would you happen to know what voltage and amperage the i7 book is charging at with that charger? If the i7 book does support USB-PD, then it should be charging at something higher than 5V
August 4, 2016 at 12:44 am #45535I just tried charging using a Nexus 6P USB C charger, and it doesn’t work. Windows says “Not charging” next to the battery percentage. Works with the included barrel charger. The Charger is has an output of 5V at 3A.
August 4, 2016 at 5:34 am #45545Thanks guys.
Guess I have to get one of the new xiaomi powerbank then.
Just ordered a i7 book off aliexpress. Hope it goes well.
Big fan of this site. Great job.

“Not charging” but does it drain the battery? If i recall most type-c power banks have a 5V 3A output, but if it still drains the battery they’re going to be pretty much useless.

I think it’s because it needs about 12V to charge, which your Nexus 6P can’t do. I don’t think Quick Charge 3.0 power adapters will not be able to charge either because the tablet cannot communicate with the charger using the technology.
I think these ones would work (but I haven’t tested any of them:

August 5, 2016 at 2:33 pm #45718If I had to take my chances I would get a charger rated for mac book usage. Something that provides 12v @ 2 amps or more (or 24 watts or more for the charging port) if it does use the same specifications than the DC plug. So it makes sense the charger for the Nexus 6P not working. And I want the type c to be ubiquitous in the tech industry already so everything uses it, making life easier.
August 5, 2016 at 8:43 pm #45775Thanks for your replies y’all, I’ll just buy an Apple charger and report back
August 5, 2016 at 8:50 pm #45777Buy it from Amazon and if it doesn’t work return it. You will have to pay the shipping costs, but asides that it should be no problem.
August 5, 2016 at 9:15 pm #45782I’m going to purchase it directly from Apple so I get free return shipping 🙂

I think you might be able to use the Google universal type c charger as well 🙂
