I think you might be able to use the Google universal type c charger as well ?
Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll probably try that charger next if the Apple one doesn’t work
August 6, 2016 at 12:07 am #45806As much as I hate giving Apple money, hope it works for you on the first try!
August 9, 2016 at 4:17 am #46194The Cube i7 Book seems to charge fine with chargers the implement the USB C power delivery spec and can do 20V output. I have successfully charged it with the iVoler 75W which can be found at https://www.amazon.com/iVoler-Charger-Delivery-Macbook-Chromebook/dp/B01ET7SDXK as well as the RavPowr 36W https://www.amazon.com/Charger-RAVPower-MacBook-iSmart-iPhone/dp/B01IB1EXX4
As an example, when the battery is full and system is idle it pulls about 20V/370mA. When running prime95 it pulls 20V/.7-1.2A for a ~15-23W draw. This is with both the iVoler and RavPower adapters.
I tried a couple C chargers that do 5v/3A and the best I could get the tablet to say was “plugged in, not charging” and sometimes it didn’t even do that.
I think you must use a USB 3.1 C to C cable capable of handling the higher power output of these chargers but haven’t tested this. Finding anything longer than a 1m cable is hard.
August 9, 2016 at 5:15 am #46196I’m now puzzling whether to buy iVoler or Anker charger. For Anker, I can get from my local retailer. For iVoler, it has already been proved successfully by Chris but I need to order it remotely from US.
Can anyone suggest Windows apps to report the voltage and ampere of charging status to my Cube i7 Book so that I know whether it is fully charged when I decide to test the fore-mentioned type-C charger?
August 9, 2016 at 9:56 am #46227Is a USB-C 2.0 cable the same as USB-C 3.1 in terms of supporting the maximum power delivery ?
or also USB-C 3.0 ?
It is a bit of a minefield – I am sure many people just buy USB-C to USB-C thinking they will support high current charging
August 10, 2016 at 2:44 am #46301If the Anker charger you’re looking at is the one mentioned by Benson Leung as supporting USB PD including 20v I think it’ll be a good purchase. Out of all their chargers it seems like only the 5 port one with a C port supports USB power delivery (at least Anker is very open about that). https://www.anker.com/products/taxons/108/USB%20Chargers

He also posted a wishlist of tested USB C to C cables and you just have to look closely and read reviews to see what kind of capabilities they have. Monoprice is pretty open about the wattage/voltage their C cables support which is made me pay very close attention to all the miscellaneous ones you see around. http://www.monoprice.com/pages/usb_31_type_c
I’d hope the companies that make USB C PD chargers like iVoler, RavPower, Anker, etc. also have C cables that support that kind of charging available.
August 10, 2016 at 8:15 am #46311On amazon there are various merchants that are selling usb-c to usb-c cables that claim to support ‘fast charging’ that clearly don’t. As you say, Anker are transparent and actually show the little chip you need to support the maximum speeds and these cables are approximately twice the price of the basic ones. In my experience it is always worth buying premium cables anyway as the cheaper ones frequently have mechanical stress failures and let you down when you least want them to.
August 12, 2016 at 9:33 pm #46585So I’ve received the Apple power brick, but I’m still waiting on the $29 USB C cable :/
Does anybody know what happens when you try to charge with both the USB C and the DC in port? It just occurred to me that it could fry the tablet if it didn’t have any safeguards against that, yet it could be such a simple mistake to do.

Any updates? hehe. torn between a 29W apple charger and a anker 18W chargerAugust 18, 2016 at 9:26 am #47204@solaris Any updates? hehe. torn between a 29W apple charger and a anker 18W charger
Still waiting on the cable (it should arrive sometime today). Is the Anker 18W charger you’re talking about the Quick Charge one?
August 18, 2016 at 1:37 pm #47227My mistake. The 18w figure is from a xiaomi Power bank. The anker charges at 29w I think
August 19, 2016 at 6:59 am #47324I got my cable and I can safely say the Apple USB C charger works perfectly! The tablet displays the battery charging symbol in the bottom right, and I can see the battery is continuing to charge up even though the tablet is under CPU load. I can see the red LED when it’s charging and green when it’s full. Once again thanks everyone for the replies!

November 24, 2016 at 9:07 pm #57446Here is list from Benson/Nathan-K about safe USB-C PD chargers. RavPower is rated really bad and dangerous charger, I am pissed that I ordered that one. Anker seems to be best with availability with EU schuko plug..

Nice list. Are you talking about the RavPower AC adapter or power bank? The power bank looks good to go.
