I would agree it’s unlikely to be software, maybe a loose ribbon cable missing contacts for that part of the screen, but hardware related.
March 11, 2017 at 1:17 am #63241Thanks for the reply. I decided to see about flashing the ROM/BIOS last night, but on starting the tablet I got nothing but the flashing LED… So this one is a DOA.

March 11, 2017 at 5:29 pm #63267If you have the new z8350 CPU Chuwi says not to flash bios. The bios they publish is for older z8300.
March 22, 2017 at 4:29 pm #63815I got my hi12 yesterday and it was like the screen was split into about 12 equal segments, with lines running down the screen from left to right (landscape). The lines are visible even when the unit is not powered on.
Contacting Banggood, not feeling hopeful. I haven’t heard from them yet.
I too just opened the box and powered it up. Seems like a manufacturing fault. Chinese tablets are a gamble that pay off as long as you are lucky to get a product which went through the manufacturing process properly and then delivered to your home without getting lost or bashed along the way. The return process seems costly, a massive hassle and without any guarantee that you’ll ever see your machine or money again.
If anyone has any experience of returning something to banggood, please share.
March 23, 2017 at 11:35 pm #63859I finally returned the Tablet to Banggood a few days back and after roughly 13 emails with roughly 36 hrs between replies, they have notified me that they are shipping out a replacement and will reimburse me for 50% of my shipping cost. It takes a lot of email to get the job done but eventually they will provide a shipping address. Stuff happens as we all know and China is a long way from my home, but overall, I knew this going in. Hopefully the new one will run good!

March 26, 2017 at 8:29 am #64018Hi Tim,
Thanks for posting that ! Great to hear some good news about banggood. Did banggood provide details on the shipping method you should use for the return? e.g. tracked, insured etc. How much did it cost?
Did they order you a new unit straight away or must you wait until they receive your defective unit?
Thanks, Myles
March 26, 2017 at 3:14 pm #64039Myles,
They wanted it tracked. I went ahead and insured it because it was only a few dollars more. But for basic USPS registered mail it cost a small fortune..$60. But my shipping choices living in a small town in Kentucky are somewhat limited. But I want this tablet bad enough to bite the bullet. It is too bad they don’t have a USA warehouse to ship it back to. They simply did not offer that option. But as soon as they could track it they did shop or the replacement.

March 27, 2017 at 7:28 am #64102Many thanks Tim,
Although the return cost is not great, its sounds positive that you’ll have a new machine soon.
March 29, 2017 at 6:25 pm #64225I have a similar display issue with my Chuwi hi 12 tablet that I received today from Gearbest. Though mine is a white patch. Has anyone had luck resolving this issue?

My display looked exactly like yours, almost the same section was missing. Mine was purchased on Banggood versus Gearbest, but this appears to indicat that Chuwi had a production issue with these displays. My missing section was either black or occasionally white, until finally after a few reboots I was greeted with a dead tablet.

April 4, 2017 at 5:59 am #64567Yes I believe it is a production issue, but the annoying thing is that these ecommerce website’s are aware of this issue but still decide to sell the defective tablet to their customers. Aware that they usually inspect this units before shipping.
If only one could get a replacement display from Chuwi or other retailers.
April 4, 2017 at 6:05 am #64568I will settle for a new complete unit, but yes, the Chinese idea of quality control is to put it mildly, horrible. I would definitely never get in a Chinese built aircraft…lol

April 4, 2017 at 6:13 am #64570Lol, Just that they make affordable products.
If only I could find someone having a Chuwi Hi 12 with other issues like a dead mobo and a good display and willing to sell. Cos purchasing a new replacement tablet is out of my budget now.
April 4, 2017 at 6:27 am #64571I simply asked for a replacement and I am being sent one. Although the return cost on mine was rather steep, but they did refund 50% of it.
