Great… you just made me buy a Chuwi Hi12 for 203usd…
February 6, 2016 at 11:03 pm #25199Tempted to sell my plus and buy the Hi12 as well.
February 6, 2016 at 11:15 pm #25201Toon bad it’s gold, but arh.. at least it’s not pink… the external usb3 and conventional ports are a great plus for me.. soundquality of the plus is below my standards too. Curious about the battery life.
February 7, 2016 at 12:24 am #25210I just ordered the Hi12 as well, damn you Rene I really can’t afford it 🙁
I put it on my Mastercard tho, hopefully I can sell the x98 plus with it’s case for $200 on facebook to pay for it.
February 7, 2016 at 3:56 am #25224I do like my x98, I just want more of a laptop hybrid over a tablet and think the Hi12 would fit that better, mainly due to the full sized USB ports.
Not been able to charge while using a USB port is a major negative for me. Also the offer you posted was just too good to resist, £137 it charged my bank (<3 international fee free mastercard).

Great spot. Bargains to be had. Sad to see the X98 Plus contingent starting to jump ship after just a few short days ? but i can see the advantages of the Hi12. Not for me though, I already have a decent laptop and i’m starting to warm to my X98 Plus despite the undoubted rough edges.
February 7, 2016 at 10:47 am #25244Fred, yours is already in the UK since last week, right? You should hopefully have it this week. Lucky you.
I was trying to read a bit on the Teclast X98 Plus Chinese Forum.. they have really a lot of information there.. Google Translate works so-so with Chinese but I’m starting to build in my head the new vocabulary.. for example:Andrews = Android
Brush = Flush
Taipower = Teclast
etc..

Yes Gal, my X98 Plus arrived Friday 5th Feb and was ordered on the 25th Jan (i think), not bad. Well packaged using the same sort tough air tube filled packaging that laser ink cartridges come in, so the box was in mint condition. Android is fine once unnecessary chinese apps are removed. The Teclast OTA app downloaded and installed an update. Play store works and all my main apps are now installed but sometimes it crashes when doing a search. The Teclast android skin is not to my taste but does the job for the moment. As for Windows 10 it’s a bit of a nightmare. Grinds away for hours trying to update. The main Win 10 update (1511) eventually infomed me that it could not install because there wasn’t 16GB of spare disk space! Removed all the stuff i’d spent ages installing earlier and tried again with my system showing 17.3GB free. After several hours more grinding away i left it overnight and this morning it had abandoned the update and reinstalled the ‘old’ version. The 1511 update is now no longer showing as available so i guess i’m going to have google for a solution.
Very good build quality (for the money) and the screeen looks great but the dual boot operating systems are in an unfinished state and lack polish. A combination of lack of QC from Teclast and Win 10 being unsuited to tablets IMO. Speed wise i have not had a chance to properly test it yet but it feels reasonably responsive with further improvements to come. With some tweaking it’ll settle down to become the tablet i wanted but it is definitely not like that straight out of the box. Two days in and i still haven’t used it for entertainment or meaningful work yet.
I’ll try the Teclast chinese forum. Tried the Chuwi forums previously but even when translated i couldn’t understand what on earth people were babbling on about.
February 7, 2016 at 1:44 pm #25264My plus was hanging at the updates as well.
Come to think of it, what might have caused this was an incorrect time.
Followed this guide and it all worked fine afterwards, performing all the needed updates. (although the updates took roughly 4-5? hours to complete). Used a disk-cleanup afterwards, as Windows.old was occupying quite an amount of space.

Thanks for the tip. I am trying it now.
February 7, 2016 at 2:44 pm #25281Fred, good to hear that it arrived. 11 days is not just great, it’s pretty amazing for non-express shipping method.
Also good to hear the OKQI packed it well.
Regarding Android, I would install Nova Launcher.
I will try to update Win10 before anything else when I get it.February 7, 2016 at 6:18 pm #25334Anonymous

This is a x98 Plus topic, but I guess most people are keen on the Chuwi Hi12…me too…but I doubt this will be the Stylus version and despite being a great-great price, 12inch screen with no stylus feels kindalike a waste.
February 7, 2016 at 7:56 pm #25344That greatly depends on your needs vgiozo. I don’t draw or edit pictures on the tablet, so i wouldn’t use a stylus even if it was. It’s not the stylus version.
I would also recommend the nova launcher for android. Simple, lightweight and very clean.

Sure, it depends on your needs…but still a 12inch tablet withOUT the possibility of using a stylus, taking Notes and using handwriting?
What I mean is, one can use a tablet in his/her own way, but its specification always privilege/introduce/make viable certain options that were not available before, i.e. they “prescribe” a way of use to some degree…just like Tablets did…
Of course at 188 euros, I could do without the Stylus as well (and if I had the money in Paypal and not had Capital Controls that prevented me from buying on the fly, I would sure give it a try, even if I had to resell it…wouldn’t do so at a loss)
February 14, 2016 at 2:57 am #25951Just requested to cancel the chewi hi12 order. I would prefer the USB full interface, but the extra weight etc doesn’t seem worth it.
I think if I buy another tablet I’ll get this UK Offer on the surface pro 3, with keyboard and stylus for 390£. But for now i’m rather happy with my x98 plus.
Hopefully someone will figure out the write speed issue on the eMMC drive tho.
