I ended up going with the Cube i7 Book.
- Charge Times: I was really concerned about the charge times via Micro USB. There seems to be a real migration away from using a dedicated DC jack rather than USB charging. The i7 book always has the fallback option to charge via usb Type-C. I’ve never met a USB cable I cannot destroy. Plus I’m bad enough with the connectors themselves. I have destroyed 2 phone’s USB ports, I have great reservations about the connectors. They vary in the degree of difficulty in replacing eg. Galaxy Note/ S phone series – It is just a simple board on a popular phone series – the part is easy and cheap. A miscelanious tablet? I have never done surface mount soldering… It requires a LOT of skill. Basically if you kill the USB port – It can still be charged.
- USB 3.0/3.1 in the i7 Book vs USB 2.0 in the iWork 10. TYPE-C does not NECESSARILY EQUAL USB 3.0/3.1
- Core M is very powerful (basically a low power i3) vs Atom
- Unlocked BIOS/ UEFI : I want to play around with linux distributions. I don’t know why Intel shoots itself in the foot and locks bootloaders/BIOS! This REALLY put me off Cherry Trail. You can even boot to SD on the i7 book!
For me there was no real comparison.
However Windows 10 is not the best tablet OS. Without a keyboard/mouse navigation can be awkward sometimes.
Android has had several years to refine itself to “touch only” interface.
I use emulators which seem to work reasonably well (not perfect)
I have NOT managed to successfully have native – Android x86 work.
I have booted into Android 4.4 r5. Touch screen drivers didn’t work. –
Android 6: Command prompt.
Remix OS: On boot it seems to hang. However there is a warning that it may not work with slow SD/USB drives (less than 10 Mbps).
Also the instructions don’t say BOOT. It does say install from windows.
Albeit I have had Remix OS successfully boot on another (non UEFI) device
