2gb RAM for a Windows OS is a scam. It was a downright scandal than MS would have a 2gb RAM Surface 3 option because you can just barely run Windows and Chrome will 100% your RAM usage with just a few tabs. I will give Chinese some credit here. They seem to have 4gb as a minimum with tablets.
April 18, 2016 at 4:22 pm #34108on android, 2gb of ram is a lot, you will never use 2gb of ram on android, or have problems with ram on android
but on windows, just by booting windows, it will take 1gb of ram, so you will be left with another gb of ram, if you think about multitasking or opening a lot of chrome tabs, go for 4gb of ram, if you will only be with 1/2 tabs open, 2gb will be ok xD
(thats one of the reasons why im thinking in buying a iwork 10 instead of a vi10 ultimate, on my desktop im always with 20/30 pags of chrome open xD, so i think that 2gb will not be for me)
April 21, 2016 at 4:38 am #34539My vi10 runs ok on 2 GB but as mentioned, multitasking on Chrome requires more to run smoother
April 25, 2016 at 10:37 am #34976My observations are basically the same:
Android gets along with 2GB quite well (tough I have to admit I bought my new smartphone in the 3GB version)
Windows struggles as soon as you start multiple apps/programms or multi-tab-browsing (especially with picture/flash/html5 heavy websites)
April 29, 2016 at 4:50 pm #35559I see a lot of mention about chrome tabs in this discussion. That’s a clue. Chrome is a massive resource hog in windows. If you use Edge, you’ll notice much better performance with 2GB of ram.
I’ve used 2GB tablets that are fine in windows 10. Windows 10 is actually very good at scaling itself and it’s needs to low resources. But some apps, like Chrome, will chew up a ton of memory and make your system come to a crawl.
I’ve stopped using chrome for this reason.
April 30, 2016 at 10:59 am #35616Actually, Chrome has improved a lot in recent versions. I used the “Great suspender” extension before which unloads tabs that have not been used for 30 minutes. But that extension stopped working because Chrome will now do that by itself. On a 2GB system only the last four or five tabs are preserved in memory, all other tabs are reloaded when you activate them.
But I do agree that 2GB is not enough if you want to use the system extensively. I would like to replace my Teclast X98 with a 4GB system, but I’m waiting for a second incentive to upgrade.
May 10, 2016 at 11:19 am #36634I’ve ordered a MiPad 2 Win 10 tablet that only comes with 2Gb of RAM. Whilst ideally it would have had 4Gb as a minimum, I do not see my usage of an 8″ tablet being sufficiently demanding that it should really be a massive issue. At least the EMMC is a decent speed in any case.
August 25, 2018 at 8:48 am #145815Actually there is a very little difference in performance that is hardly noticeable. You know, people tend to think that the more RAM is installed in their smartphones the higher would be the performance. This statement isn’t wrong, but it aint true as well. There are many other aspects that make your devise work faster and better. The average CPU speed, the type of video accelerator and even ammount of internal storage. Well, despite my samsung galaxy s4 has “only” 2 GB of RAM, its quad core CPU makes it work smoothly and without frequent troubles. The ammount of RAM can make your phone work better but it is not the KEY argument…
