Hi,
Your talking about that fake Chinese reviewer on XDA? That guy is known for his super biased paid reviews. Just look at the photos and images. The tablets OS is in Chinese shot in what looks to be either a retailer’s office (Aliexpres seller? Gearbest, Tinydeal or bangood) or maybe Cube’s own offices. Guy’s like him spreading their fake info are mostly the reason why I created this site. He claims a huge battery life and it doesn’t go over 80 degrees haha, what lies! Anyway, to answer your questions:
1. Well, you know mine – 97 degrees C max as per my review.
2. In balanced mode it will stay cooler, but if you game or encode a video (something taxing) it will still get into the 90’s
3. Yes it can to some degree using Intel XTU, it will lower temps a few degrees.
4. The easiest mod would be to just add a large thermal pad.
Don’t get me wrong, the Cube i7 Book is maybe one of the best Chinese tablets. Using mine all the time and swapped my Cube i9 for the i7 Book due to it’s performance. Just you need to fix the thermals I think, it’s a real shame Cube did not add a thermal pad onto of the heatsink.

Would adding a thermal pad void warranty?
August 2, 2016 at 9:51 pm #45372Well, technically yes as you opened it up right? But how are they to know that if there is no void warranty if removed sticker. Unless you damage it or leave a huge thermal pad in there and they can tell it was opened.

So if I took it out, cleaned it up and sent it on for warranty, they wouldn’t realise? Can this mod be done without unscrewing anything and without copper parts?
August 2, 2016 at 10:29 pm #45375Like he said, just add a thermal pad on top 4. You need to read dude. Of course, only if they realise would void the warranty.
The easiest mod would be to just add a large thermal pad.

I read it fine, I was just double checking. What do you mean by top 4? Do you mean just apply it on top of the metal shiny (silver coloured) part?

August 3, 2016 at 11:03 am #45430Yes just apply a 1mm thick thermal pad on top of that silver heatsink. That should offer an improvement of sorts.

I tried loading a few webgl demos and that brought it up to low 80’s
Finally i loaded I am setsuna, pretty much works as fast as the i7 stylus (actually a bit faster, i kept seeing frame drops on the stylus at 1080p, haven’t seen any on the book), it hit 90 pretty fast, then it lowered instantly (throttling i guess?) to 77ish.
I’m using the default settings/balanced mode, on win10 aniversary. (which works fine).
To be honest, my only annoyance has been the touchpad gestures that minimize everything to desktop, to the point that i did an AHK script to remap Windows+D to nothing (no the best fix but it does the job)

Thanks so much for answering my questions, it helps to see what many people got! 🙂
August 4, 2016 at 12:59 am #45536@Chris, did you find the perceived to-the-touch temperature got any better with your mod, or was it only internal temperatures that dropped? Also, which software did you use to read the temperature? openhardwaremonitor doesn’t seem to work… just shows SSD temperatures.
August 4, 2016 at 8:36 am #45561Surely Cube must be aware of these overheating issues. I predict that one day in the near future someone will post on here that they have just opened their tablet and found a copper mod 🙂

Hi, this kind of mod always increases surface temps. Internal CPU max temp dropped 20 degrees, but the outer housing when gaming or encoding video gets very hot to the touch. This is the trade-off in transferring heat to the rear housing.
I use HWinfo to monitor CPU & GPU temps.

In your videos it went down by roughly 5 degrees though???

CPU max temps went from 97 degrees c to now around 76 degrees after a long period of gaming. That’s a good 20 degrees C. Surface temps in the beginning looked cooler, but after long extending gaming periods of an hour it was very hot around 50 degrees to the touch. Feels very hot, uncomfortable to the touch, but it doesn’t bother me as I used the tablet in the keyboard and it’s only when gaming.

Great tablet all around
