no, you can’t. There is no 5.0 android rom for X98 plus.
May 13, 2016 at 1:46 am #37071What a shame, the so called android upgrade is a big step backward. Why would an OS limits the user from accessing the SD card? Then why bother to include an external storage interface? So what is the use of that slot if the SD memory inserted in it is not accessible? Is this Teclast’s issue? can Teclast improve on this feature with a BIOS upgrade?
May 13, 2016 at 4:11 am #37089hello ben. Regarding your problem I have a similar issue with my note 3. If i try to send files from storage to external cards it fails to do that. But I discovered that you can do it only with the stock file manager (think called samsung file manager). Maybe that is the case with teclast too???
Or maybe your problem is that your external sd card doesnt work with teclast? I’ve seen many topics about the issue and seems common here.
sory for bad inglish
May 13, 2016 at 6:14 am #37097Mooggie, Thanks for your comment. But my situation is somewhat different. I totally have no problem with my Samsung note 3. Everything works as well as I expected. even including a 128 GB SD card. There are certain apps I can outright move out to the SD memory and they work flawlessly. It’s just that the screen is simply too small to watch any video for any length of time. It has android 5.0.
When I bought my teclast x98 plus the x98 air 3G was no longer in stock. Besides the Plus has more RAM and bigger storage (4G RAM and 64GB ROM). Unfortunately it came with android 5.1. I was not aware that Google removed the SD card access feature from 5.1 while 5.0 was working just so very nicely.
The case in point is I have used “tubemate” and “the Great courses” in my note 3 with android 5.o and 128GB SD card. I have been able to download tons of excellent youtube video. I was able to store them in the SD card without loading up my internal memory.
With the great courses, I have purchased many professional courses and was able to store them in the SD card also for offline use when I commute. Again without overloading my internal memory. Now with Android 5.1, the whole thing no longer work. What a total shame with Google.

I don’t mean to beat a dead horse, I think what you describe is slightly different. I am talking with Android 5.1 in my Teclast x98 plus, for some reason the option to allow me to change the default write function to the SD card when I mount the card is no longer there. For that function being no longer available means that many third party apps and even Google apps will no longer able to direct file and data generated by the apps directly to the SD card memory instead of the internal memory.
Do anyone in the forum have any idea if this is a defect in the Teclast firmware or is this Google’s intention to force us to use the cloud storage? Mind you that most mobile devices has limited internal memory and direct upload and download of files and data from the cloud cost data usage time and often WIFI or mobile data signals might not be readily available thus rendering the function useless.
