I have the same problem, it is something to do android 5 . I have found that the app ES file explorer allows you to write to it. I wanted to change the backup path in app backup & restore but it will not let me write to it.

    Hi Micheal,

Thanks for taking the time out to help.

I do overcome the problem of moving apps from the root directory….. . . Something like this..

I made a Backup using the Android settings window

USing a file manager I copied the back up folder to my SD card, and then moved an app (an unimportant chess game which I knew I could easily restore)  from that folder directly to the SD card. . . I then launched that copy in file manager.  The system then asked if I wanted to update this version, which I did. . . I then deleted all the Backup copies, leaving just one file.

    This worked…. . . But there must be a more professional way…..very long winded……….

Many apps in the play store can do this for you

    Eg.  https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ljmobile.move.app&referrer=utm_source%3Dgoogle%26utm_medium%3Dorganic%26utm_term%3Dandroid+move+app+to+sd+card&pcampaignid=APPU_1_dMmSVqy3Fcf5mAGD_pTgDQ

     Hi Nuts

Thanks for taking the time out to help…..
I have tried numerous apps to resolve the issue without any success….
I think my system thinks the root is an SD card due to the partition (my tablet has dual boot Windows 10 & Android 5)….and therefore says apps are on SD card………..

    Best regards
