The SD-card here is read with speeds of 40MB/s, so that’s definitely more than USB2 Speed – and i guess this is limited by the card, not the Interface.
March 8, 2017 at 10:18 pm #63157No, the dark blue keyboard only supports USB 2.0 (and it won’t power my usb3 hdd). And, as far as I know, the silver keyboard won’t either. I can also confirm the reading speeds to top at ~40MB/s.
March 9, 2017 at 6:46 am #63163Just to make this clear: the 40MB/s is when using the internal SD-slot. Using the USB3-connector, I’ve had >100MB/s with a fast USB-stick and >>200MB/s with an SSD. I’ve not yet tried the USB C connector (except for charging and HDMI-out).
March 12, 2017 at 4:23 pm #63292Thanks for the replies — as far as the microSD card in the slot, I was going to spend more on a really fast one, but it looks like the 80 MB/s write speeds on a 128GB samsung pro select wouldn’t be a good match for this tablet.
As far the keyboard and USB3 speeds, I watched the video review again and it turns out that I should have been watching more closely the first time…Chris was talking about the USB2 kb port connected to his hard drive and the USB3 cable coming from the tablet at about the same time in the video, but the video does make it clear that the USB3 speeds he is talking about refer to connection coming directly from the tablet, and not through the kb ports. So since there is no difference in port speeds between the newer silver and older dark blue, I’m going for the latter because it should match up better with what I’m planning to do with the tablet when it shows up. I usually don’t care too much about appearences when it comes to tech stuff, but I think the bright bezel might be a distraction to me and plan alter it with a quick coat or 3 of a dark colored Plastidip.
March 13, 2017 at 10:06 am #63319Because of the technology of the POGO pins, it would be hard to obtain true USB3 speeds with them. I can see, why they opted for USB2 ports on the keyboard (it’s also cheaper with a simpler PCB).
But it would be possible to make an USB3 powered keyboard from the Cube keyboard, with a custom PCB and new usb ports. When my keyboard arrives, I will try to make one.
