Is there any LED on the tablet when you plug it? Have you tried any other branded charger and cable? Chargers like the one from Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge should work without any problem. The supplied charger could just be faulty or doesn’t push out enough juice for the tablet. If you want it to be recognized by your laptop, are you in Android partition?

No light whatsoever. No indication any charging is taking place.

I don’t have any other USB 3 cables to test. I have other adapters, including a Samsung one (no idea what juice it puts out but it charges my lenovo idea tab) – doesn’t work either. Tried a few adapters, travel ones etc with the supplied USB 3 cable. Nothing.

I was in Android when I tried hooking up the USB 2.0 to the laptop, yeah. Zilch with a couple different cables

I’m just wondering whether its worth it to buy a better charger like an s7 edge one. Could be throwing good money after bad 🙁

I believe its a Samsung travel adapter I tried. Rated the same as the supplied charger and surely should be capable. If so, it would have to be the cable. Unless its not capable and in which case why on earth supply it…charging is kinda important

Should it be able to charge from the USB 2.0 port before I do something stupid…?

Which version of the iWork10 have you bought? – if it’s the type-c version this only charges through the type-c port, it’s caught a few people out.  I don’t know if the vanilla version has similar preferences for one port over another.

Yes you’re supposed to charge thru the microUSB 2.0 port, not 3.0. The microUSB 3.0 port only has OTG function and NOT for charging.

There isn’t any clear indication, but the manual claims..

Type c -reading data and charge by 5v

    MicroUSB – reading data

Regardless it doesn’t charge by USB 2 either, to rule out the possibility of inaccurate manual. Really does look like a dud

If it is the type-c (it sounds like it might be from your last reply, but you’re not clear on this) the cable provided is a bit shit.  It was the first type-c device I’ve used and I found the cable need to push in further than I thought.  There’s then a blue light at the top-left of the screen to confirm charging.

Thanks so much George, I got it working! The cable really is utterly crap. I mean I even considered that as a possibility and did wiggle it around and play with it. I just jammed it in really hard, harder than is probably advisable and I got a flicker of flight. I pushed it again and it works?! Horrendous cable…

Any reccomendations for a decent one?

I feel like an idiot that can’t put a cable in properly…

But then again, that is a truly atrocious bit of kit. Can’t even be good for the charging unit to have to go to those lengths to insert the cable.

This is a common problem with USB Type-C cables, apparently.  Go look through the Amazon reviews of Type-C cables and you’ll see tons of complaints about it.

I’m using this, but I’m not convinced I’m getting full charging speeds with it.  It’s still a better cable than the one that comes with the tablet.

    Cheers ScutMonkey. Much appreciated.

Charging away quite happily now. Once I’ve got it up and running and I’ll try and resolve the connectivity with the laptop issue. Good chance that was some idiocy on my part too. If I can do that I’ll be a happy man and can keep this thing, as it did look a really decent tablet when it was charged. Except the speakers.

I am using the supplied Type C cable and it’s charging as expected at 5.1V 2.1A.

Hmm, it seems to be operating more normally now. I’ve pulled it out and placed it back in to test and it’s charging without protest now, not as much effort required to sit in place and charge properly. Really is a strange one, as I certainly tried more than a few approaches last night. Maybe I’ll keep it if it can carry on like that for the next few weeks. I’m far too cheap to buy something unless I really have to… 🙂

With regards to the micro USB, in android that should just hook to the laptop without issue? What about in Windows?

I have just connected it to my PC. You will have to connect it to the USB C port and not microUSB 2.0. Connecting it to microUSB 2.0 wouldn’t work. It probably only work as an OTG function and nothing else.

Not pushing it in far enough caught me as well.. 😉

As did catching the cable at an angle and the plug is now loose in the housing – shit cable.  I’ve switched to an Anker multi-USB charger with a type-c port and an Anker type-c to type-c cable for charging.  Much better now.  I generally switch from the OEM bits in the box to Anker replacements for this type of thing.
