Hello
Try to remove the iGPU driver with DDU, and then install the absolute latest from Intel’s site. Then remove the dGPU’s driver, just in case and reinstall the latest one from NVIDIA’s site.
May 14, 2018 at 7:17 pm #143033Hello Ferdinand, thanks for helping. Unfortunately your suggestion didn’t affect the issue at all. But I’ve discovered that the problems depends on the integrated Intel GPU, since when its driver was uninstalled (before reinstalling it from the Intel website) the computer was working normally. Of course I can’t leave it only with the nVidia GPU since I won’t be able to take advantage of the Optimus power saving technology and I won’t be able to use other operating systems. But I would be very happy if this information triggers your or someone else’s mind
May 14, 2018 at 8:21 pm #143034P.S.: I have tried a Manjaro XFCE live environment and it works perfectly! This issue is driving me crazy
May 15, 2018 at 6:30 am #143038That’s strange, but it is definitely a driver issue then. Unfortunately, I don’t have any specific tip for solving your issue, although you should try the older Intel drivers and see if it solves the problem.
Are you using the latest Windows 10 with the April Update (v1803)? If so, you should seriously consider rolling back to the previous version which was the Fall Creators Update (v1709), because the newest Windows version introduced a lot of serious bugs.
May 15, 2018 at 6:42 am #143039The oroblpris that this happens even wirhthe previous version of the driver (15.x)
Do you know how to roll back to the previous version of Windows?
May 15, 2018 at 7:11 am #143041If you didn’t delete the windows.old folder (granted you installed the April Update over the Fall Creator Update), you should see an option in the settings.
But the cleanest way is to reinstall Windows from a USB stick, that you previously made it bootable with the v1709 .iso file with an application named Rufus. Just make sure you download the right Windows, which is the Home edition, because that can be digitally licensed upon connecting to the internet, no need to enter license key (it is tied to your notebook).
May 15, 2018 at 7:38 am #143042That’s exactly the issue here: I don’t have any Windows.old folder since I’ve installed directly the 1803 version. Do you know where I can find older Windows ISOs? Thank you for your patience
May 15, 2018 at 8:48 am #143043Download this neat little portable program, that lets you directly download older Windows .iso files. Select Windows 10 and look for ‘Fall Creators Update Home Edition’.
May 16, 2018 at 5:56 pm #143071Unfortunately the issue persists regardless of the Windows version. I really think I’ve got a defective unit.
May 16, 2018 at 8:09 pm #143076I’m sorry to hear that. Here is a smiley face painted on white canvas in 3D space, hope it will cheer you up.
