Now it is stuck at 55% when doing a factory reset.
January 15, 2016 at 7:47 pm #22483I think the factory reset takes a few hours (maybe an hour?), so keep it plugged in and let it run.

OK. Thank you for the advice. I tried last night again and this time the full recovery worked. It took about 4 hours to complete. Such a pain. But thankfully I did not need to buy a keyboard and a mouse to change the boot order to boot from a USB stick.
After the recovery, I had to apply November update via Windows update. So December 16 purchase from BG shipments don’t have the Nov. version of Windows 10 image. After the recovery I had two Korea music player shortcuts on my desktop. These also show in the app list but when I went to the folder, I deleted both which were a website shortcut to a ‘Korean page’. Strange!
Also to answer my own question, when I downloaded and ran the Firmware update and it told me which version I have. Mine was 1.02 or whatever the latest is.
So, as for laggy performance etc. Yes it is slow compared to my Dell XPS 13 2015 version, Canadian edition with 4GB Ram and real SSD but hey this is an atom tablet. I did some optimizations as to uninstall some apps, removed OneDrive and tried to disable the search service including the uncheck of the indexing of c drive and my Sandisk extreme 64GB microSdxc drive.
I also changed my resolution to 1920×1440 which is as sharp as the original with correct aspect ratio and fonts are larger with 200% scaling. Lets hope even better battery life and perfomance if I run it this way.
I bought this as an advanced eReader, including PDF magazines and Book Bazaar ePub reader also as plex player to be hooked up to my Unic UC50 micro projector. Micro HDMI works fine. BT speaker connected OK. I also ordered an easyCast HDMI dongle which is on its way so I am hoping it will do miracast well also.
Later, I may install Adobe LR and Photoshop CS versions but my main reason for buying this was not killer performance but decent batttery life and 4GB RAM on a 64bit machine.
Previously, I had Dell Venue pro, Lenovo Miix 2 8, Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 8 inch (which is gifted to my mother) and final one HP stream 7, with only 1GB RAM and 32MMC. All others had 2GB RAM and eMMC ranging from 32 to 64GBs.
I also have one of those USB hubs and it seems to charge while connected to Seagate Slim 2TB drive but shuts off the drive when I try to copy files. I will play it more (connect another charger to USB Hub?) and report later.
I also installed a Matte generic screen protector and even on 50% brightness the screen is legible with crisp colors in very sunny outdoors. I live in Seville, Spain and today was a sunny day here.
I had also purchased the grey Teclast folding case for X98 Air III and it fits like glove, but it adds some unnecessary weight and single hand holding becomes hard. Also the 3 fold cover is on the opposite site due to funny design of the volume rocker, power buttons and the power (micro USB), HDMI and headphone jack are on the bottom. All other tablets I had had these 2 sets of features on the opposite site. So I hold the tablet camera on the bottom and since I never use the cameras no problem for me but it is something to note.
I will do some battery and CPU real life user impressions and will keep you posted.
Final conclusion, I wish it was a bit lighter and smaller. I don’t have a requirement for this super high resolution for this slow Atom chip 1920×1200 or 4:3 ratio is fine. I wish Mi Pad 2 came with 4GB Ram, Micro SDXC slot and better battery life which would be perfect for me. If something similar comes to these reqs, I might sell this and get an 8incher in the future.

Can you please provide some more information about the matte screen protector that you purchased? Can you please provide some photo of how the tablet looks (how reflective it is now) with the matte s.p. on?
Thank you.

OK. I have a generic screen protector which is matte. The shop owner cut it for me. Not perfect but does the job.
LR is slow. Whole tablet is slow. Unfortunately.
January 30, 2016 at 6:34 am #24386I tried to live with the Windows 10 animations on, but eventually disabled them so no more animations on maximize/minimize/open/start menu etc. Tablet runs 100% better without that jazz stuttering and janking around and no need to gimp the display by running it outside of the native resolution. I have no idea how this tablet manages to play games like Dungeon Hunter 5 in the native resolution at a reasonably smooth frame rate but gets all jerky when just opening windows or the start menu, something about it just doesn’t seem right to me.
Maybe the dual boot BIOS/image has some improvements in this area.
And yeah my other Windows “tablet” is an HP Spectre X360 with an i7-5500, 8GB of RAM and a proper SSD, and my gaming desktop is also an i7 with 32GB of RAM … so I don’t care if this is a slow machine in general, I have lots of other options when it comes to needing something powerful but I do want to be able to just navigate around Windows without any distracting pauses and jerks and I don’t see any reason why this hardware shouldn’t be able to do it.
