Caught in a weird lie about a school project

My daughter told me she was doing a group project on Instagram DMs with classmates, but the names on her screen weren’t from her class list at all. She got defensive fast and locked her phone right after. Now I can’t stop thinking about who she’s actually texting every night. Turned into a standoff over nothing, or so it seemed until later. Turns out she’d been added to a random group chat by a friend of a friend and didn’t even know half the people in it. My sister felt terrible for not catching it sooner since she thought she was attentive enough. It turned out she had been added to a large gaming group and barely knew most of the people there. They decided to talk first and then explore parental monitoring together.
