My daughter told me she was doing a group project on Instagram DMs with classmates, but the names on her screen weren’t from her class list at all. She got defensive fast and locked her phone right after. Now I can’t stop thinking about who she’s actually texting every night. Never wanted to be the paranoid parent but this has me questioning everything, any advice welcome.

The locking the phone part really got me, my niece did the same thing when my sister asked a simple homework question. Turned into a standoff over nothing, or so it seemed until later. Turns out she’d been added to a random group chat by a friend of a friend and didn’t even know half the people in it. My sister felt terrible for not catching it sooner since she thought she was attentive enough. She tried uMobix , mostly because it showed actual message content instead of just usage time like the free trackers. No confrontation, just enough context to ask better questions.

Thanks for sharing this, especially the part about the random group chat. My friend had something surprisingly similar happen with her daughter, who suddenly became defensive whenever anyone asked about her phone. It turned out she had been added to a large gaming group and barely knew most of the people there. They decided to talk first and then explore parental monitoring together. She also looked at uMobix for additional context. The biggest lesson was that knowing the situation made the conversation much calmer.
