Hi, it depends if you keep the brightness down it will slowly charge. But gaming and full brightness it would not keep up with the power draw I’m 90% sure of this. I have a Mi 10400mah power bank that’s flat and I will charge it tonight and test it once charged to confirm this.
Gaming you might be about to get around 3 hours tops if you keep the brightness down.

I am planning on getting the same Mi 10400mah powerbank, so I am extremely grateful for your willingness to test stuff like that!
About the brightness – I will mostly be indoors, so considering the bright-ish screen I think I will be ok with even 20-30% brightness, as long as I can maintain the battery, or at least considerably prolong it’s life while connected to the power bank. This is actually the first tablet that I am purchasing for myself and I just kinda blindly assumed I can plug it in the wall / power bank and operate as if I am using a laptop, which I now realize is almost never the case with tablets. Would it be any better if I manage to connect it directly to a power socket while performing said tasks?
Thanks again for all your hard work, helping us choose the best Chinese tablets! 🙂
June 30, 2015 at 6:50 pm #6377Okay I can report the good news. It seems to charge at 5watt with the supplied short cable. Using other longer cables you just loose current. And gaming it might just give you a little charge, the bad news. I bumped the mi powerback and it dragged my tablet of with it and the fall cracked my screen. No more touch on my Chuwi Hi8 🙁 I will need to replace the screen on it. it only fell about half a meter.

Currently testing: LG G8X & Redmi K30June 30, 2015 at 8:15 pm #6381Ouch! Sorry to hear that 🙁 This tablet looked so sturdy in your reviews, can’t believe it took so little to rend it unusable.
I really appreciate your test tho, gives me hope! I will just have to be extra careful and probably keep the chuwi inside it’s keyboard case at all times ._.
July 1, 2015 at 4:12 pm #6420Well it did fall onto a tiled floor. Not carpet, here is the result of the drop. The crack was only half way, but touching the screen made it crack right along it.

I’m looking for a case myself to try and protect it. Chinatabs don’t have Gorilla glass hey.
I know BangGood sells “Outer screen replacement parts” for the Chuwi VI8. I assume this means the glass and touch panel. I doubt it would fit the Hi8, but it does mean they might sell the Hi8 screens soon? Or Ali perhaps?
