Buying this tablet is a gamble, I don’t think many owners of Hi8 Pro would recommend it despite having great specs on paper.
I also hoped that later batches would be problem free, especially after new BIOS, which would then encourage me a buy another Hi8 Pro, but people are now complaining about SD card reader a lot which wasn’t a problem in the earlier batches. It’s a two steps forward, one step back situation.
I think current recommendation of this forum for 8″ tablet is Mi Pad 2. However, then you won’t have SD card reader at all.June 17, 2016 at 3:01 pm #41315Anonymous

Yeah that’s the vibe I get as well, well I can’t afford the Windows version of it thought.
I’ll probably go with the android version, as it’s use will probably be light gaming(Hearthstone), Ebooks(That’s why I look for a high res good quality screen), browsing and slight multimedia use, for actuall work I’ll stick to my laptop.
The bad thing is that Xiaomi seems to ignore updating android versions on that tablet, it’s even debatable if it’ll get the MIUI 8 update, hm.
June 18, 2016 at 4:52 pm #41412I have just received my Hi8 Pro today and everything seems to be working. I have checked the SD card and it is recognized in both Windows and Android. I only have a 32GB card so I don’t know if the problem only exists for larger cards? I have a 128GB card on the way so will try that when it arrives.
I have already used the tablet from around 80% down to 19% in Windows and it had not shut down on its own. I have charged it to 100% and in the process of running it in windows till about 20% again. (Edit – Just ran it down to 20% with no issues)
Going to try and get it to deep sleep in Android and see if it will wake (will leave it overnight), so will report back tomorrow.
For the record –
Hi8 Pro Batch – 7383
Bios : D2D3_Hi8Pro.223
Android build number : 20160503.093459
Windows 10 with all updates installedKimmy
June 19, 2016 at 9:41 am #41451Android woke from a deep sleep (7hrs) fine without any issues.
last night watched a couple hours of YouTube videos on Windows, did some net surfing without any issues.
Watched a full movie on Android, installed some apps and did a bit of net surfing. Again, absolutely perfect. No heat issues, shut downs or crashes – not yet anyway lol.
So overall I’m very happy with my purchase. I brought this via eBay for £68.99 and was UK based stock. I checked online and the cheapest I could get it was around £60 and that would be from China. So I think this was a bargain and I think if I did have any issues, I would just go through eBay/PayPal and only have to post back to the UK seller.
I hope this helps, let me know if you would like me to test or check anything.

Thanks for the feedback, from the info I gathered the SD problem usually happens with high capacity ultra speed sd which I won’t actually use, if at all I’ll use an old 16gb msd I have to store ebooks.
I can get HI8pro locally for around 100 euros and normal HI8 for 80, Mi pad 2 sells for 200…
I am almost tempted to go for the old HI8 but I really wanted that HDMI port…

Screen is super nice, based on my own experience I will definitely recommend it. But as they always say, its a bit of a lottery. However, if you can get it locally and return it if there are any issues, I don’t think its a bad idea.
