    Solution: use Firefox instead of Chrome

    Right now i’m running Firefox Nightly v64 fluently with 30 tabs opened, peaks at (only) 1.2 GiB of RAM.

    If you need more than 4GB RAM for production workloads then you should invest in better platform as whole. For what this laptop is designed for, 4GiB is enough. And i would choose 4GiB of DDR4 rather than 6GiB of DDR3 especially for this kind of device.

    I’ve decided to get this laptop anyways.

    I can trade 6GB or 8GB for great keyboard and mouse, great display and beautiful design

    btw, how are temps. on it? as in regular use or even some light-moderate use (a few tabs open including youtube and couple apps running in the background)

    (not heatsink modded yet, waiting for pad and shim delivery) General usage temps are OK, its not going to throttle nor get too hot to touch. Even in intense single threaded workloads its still fine. In intense multithreaded workloads it will power throttle before it can heat itself up. Machine was running (and was actively used) for bunch of hours, right now its been connected to charger for about hour. Left half of keyboard feels warm (likely due to charging) while right half is just above ambient (likely heated up by my hand) and core temperatures are in 50-60°C  range with extremely short spikes to 70°C. Workload: Firefox with over 30 tabs, code editor, mail client, document viewer and calculator 😀

    @gopnik Oh not good, but that’s not an outright no.  But no time soon. Well, I think Great Wall, or the Alfawise brand might push it out with 8GB. This after all the base model is from an ODM so even Teclast, Pipo, Vivo or Onda could release it with 8GB.

    Alfawise has a 32GB model with an empty SSD slot coming with no branding. Let’s hope they bring us the 8GB model we all want. As it stands I’m happy with 4GB for my needs on this class of CPU.

    @snoop05
    I happen to agree runs great with even 4GB, And if you want it to feel really quick I recommend disabling the power limits and c-states in CPU advanced settings in the bios. Now it feels like a Core M3/i3 laptop almost.

    But I do have my OS on the SSD and heatsink mod done. So impressed with this laptop using it now typing this and even with C-states off, getting 8 hours on 30-40% brightness using Chrome. Firefox does use so much less RAM! I’m also using the Teclast F5 which is a bit smoother with 8GB, but the keyboard full-sized ports and battery life makes it a much better machine in my eyes.

    Hey Chris.

    What do you think about these chinese-branded laptops in terms of longevity? Can they withstand 4 years? Since i’m going to college and in need of a laptop for the whole duration of the course.
