I have asked the same question on the x98 Pro page at Gearbest, and they answered:

Thank you for your inquiry regarding http://www.gearbest.com/m-goods-sn-143340306.htm
Your original question is “Has the overheating problem in the x98 Pro been fixed? Does it overheat in Win 10 only, or in both Win10 and Android? Thanks.”
Here is the answer from Our Customer service Team:
    Hello,
Thank you for your inquiry,it has been fixed.Have a nice day.

But I am not sure I’m convinced. It is so laconic that it doesn’t really ring true, but more like “yeah yeah, shut up and buy already” :).

ha I wouldn’t trust that email. it’s probably not been changed at all. Saying that I have no problems with mine. I think you only get overheating issues if you are playing very demanding games. The plus has a lower powered cpu so that’s why it doesn’t overheat.

I’ve have both. The pro is smoother almost in all task. Battery last less time, but you can play very demanding games without having to lower resolution.

Video response is in general much better with PRO.

However, I see Plus more stable than Pro, probably due to overheating. I will apply thermal mod as soon as possible.

I just got my x98 pro, there is no change in the thermals. But with the thermal mod you’ll see temps dropping by 20 degrees. I did it on mine so i’m talking from personal experience.
