I currently have mine set to the custom resolution of 1194×796 – which is what it did when I put in 1200×800. No UI scaling.
I can’t speak for how it effects battery life but my experience with other hi rez tablets is that it makes a significant difference. I have a matte screen protector that is a little grainy so I lose the benefits of ultra high rez screens, anyway, so I like everything larger: easier to navigate via fingers and I never need to dig out the reading glasses.
Feels more fluid to me, too. What made the biggest difference in terms of usability, though, was the touchscreen fix. Wow. Different machine and doesn’t feel “cheap” or underpowered to me at all. Its amazing how much slight tweaks to UI accuracy can completely change one’s experience of the device.

Which is why for anything more serious, like Photoshop, cad, working etc. I recommend Core M’s they are very quick and fluid compared to an Atom.

I thought i would be more annoyed by the lack of sharpness, but when i started using it normally (tablet on a table and leaning back in a chair), the larger icons and font made more sense and the sharpness didn’t really matter.
completely agree with the touchscreen fix. life saver. too bad i can’t replicate the fix in android. i feel like deleting that partition entirely.
July 13, 2016 at 3:46 am #43326I don’t think using a lower resolution will reduce battery usage. Let’s say the screen has 1600 x 960 resolution but you decide to lower it down to 800 x 480, a dot that was displayed using one pixel in 1600 x 960 mode will now be displayed using 4 pixels (2×2) in 800 x 480 mode (making it bigger, less sharp). Every physical pixel on the screen is still being lit, so the screen uses the same amount of battery in either mode.
July 13, 2016 at 4:28 am #43329The GPU doesn’t have to work as hard so there is a minor amount of power saving. Its not that important on the Hi12 since it has plenty of battery power but it made a significant difference with the x98 pro’s less than impressive power handling. The performance increase is more significant, though. Worth a try if you find yourself increasing the font and object sizes or have trouble hitting smaller menu items with your fingers.
