Well. At least it’s easy fix. Just to replace the bios chip and flash it with file from chuwi forum.

April 9, 2016 at 9:02 pm #32844Not good, wonder if he fried it trying to flash it with a USB Eprom programmer?
Or it just died when charging did it? Like i’ve always said these tablets are a bit of a lottery, get a good one, it’s awesome. But get a bad one, well you know.

Currently testing: LG G8X & Redmi K30April 9, 2016 at 9:40 pm #32849The problem is they put the BIOS to close to the heat (CPU…) So the BIOS fry, if the BIOS chip burn there no way to flash it back since dead chip, the only way if is the only problem is to remove it and solder a new one …

Placing that spi flash chip near the SoC is really stupid, I can tell as an electrical engineer. The SoC can easily heat up to 90 degrees, and flash memory does not like high temperatures for a long time. It could also simply be a bad chip.(this is the case I think) These Chinese tablets are probably filled with the cheapest components they can find, which also results in less stable operation.
Now if more people with dual boot Hi12’s would also report having 12khz noise at 0%-25% back light, I might open up the tablet and check some stuff with my oscilloscope. The audio noise is also simply bad design, but most time difficult to fix because of complex pcb routing.
If the guy from 4pda can’t read the chip, he should replace the chip with a good brand like spansion or microchip. These chips are very easy to find.
EDIT: supercowz beat me to it. I was typing slow on my phone 😛
April 10, 2016 at 5:47 am #32869That pwm noise: wouldn’t it simple be a poor quality coil?

That pwm noise: wouldn’t it simple be a poor quality coil?
Could be indeed. The noise probably comes from an unshielded coil.(only partially ferrite)
If I every open the tablet, I’ll use my phones microphone to measure the loudness to check where the noise is coming from. This is really just bad quality design or bad quality components. Either way, this can be fixed. I just hope I am the only one along with a few others. Otherwise this would mean that everybody should send their tablet back for motherboard replacement. -
