Dissappointing general performance? Tips & Tricks

Hi guys, first of all I want to make clear that I’m quite happy with my Hi10 (64-bit OS, no blackscreen/power issues yet). Having said that and coming from a Nexus 7 tablet and a One Plus One smartphone I did notice some small annoyances after using the tablet a few days. It might be the Cherry Trail cpu or Win 10 as I don’t have any former experience with each of them but the Hi10 doesn’t feel as snappy or responsive as my Android devices. From clicking buttons, opening windows to browsing, now and then you can spot a small but noticable delay before performing said action.

I think cutting the visual effects (leave font smoothing on!!) and turning data collection and uploading off (cortana, win update, privacy) are especially helpfull in making the tablet feel much more responsive.

One thing I immediately noticed was the slow scrolling speed in Windows and your internet browser. It’s way smoother and quicker in Android. I found a tutorial to adjust the scrolling speed, but unfortunately you can’t seem to do anything about the smoothness. I have set the friction value to 8 for some lazy fast scrolling with a flick of my finger, but 12-16 might be more reasonable for most users.

Another nagging issue for me is the Edge browser. It might be faster than Chrome or Firefox, but the way it loads/caches pages with ’tiles’ is very annoying. When scrolling up or down a website, you notice the pop-up of the content and the shuffling of some banner like page elements. If this also annoys you, I recommend to use Chrome as that solved this issue for me for the websites I frequently use.

Batterylife is pretty decent with default settings (around 5 hours). I noticed I could squeeze another hour extra when turning off all background processes privilages and brightness at 30 (screen is fantastic, 30 should be plenty for indoors use).

The only problem I haven’t solved yet is the relatively poor wifi connection/chip of the Hi10. I have gotten a few ‘no internet’ exclamation alerts while still connected to my Wifi network at home, which are solved by turning wifi off and on again. This never happened on any of my mobile devices. I hope it’s some setting in Windows and not hardware related.

It would be interesting if Chuwi releases the dual boot android rom, I guess it would feel much faster than Win 10.

My Hi10 from VC Mall on Aliexpress doesn’t seem to have these problems. I do notice that it takes forever to charge. For some reason, charging it while its on sleep mode seems to be a little faster. Graphical performance is also okay on the tablet, as I can run Bioshock on low settings.
