Hey everyone, I thought it would be fun to a little thought experiment. What would it take to hack together the parts of a cube i7 into a DIY GPD Win?
For those unfamiliar with the GPD Win, here’s a pic. https://ixquick-proxy.com/do/spg/show_picture.pl?l=english&rais=1&oiu=http%3A%2F%2Fmedia.sureshop.it%2Fmedia%2Fcatalog%2Fproduct%2FS%2FH%2FSH-4172.JPG&sp=69e181920e4b388bf3e365cc8ffa6e58
It’s a windows PC crammed into a clamshell design, similar to the Nintendo DS. The top half has a touch panel and the bottom a gamepad and mini keyboard.
Putting the obvious aside (casing, controller parts, mini keyboard, etc.), what would it take to make your own GPD Win using i7 Book parts? Would it be possible to drive a different, smaller display using the cube i7 book mobo? Is there a way to attach a different kind of battery to the device? Maybe one that’s smaller and can be fit into a smaller form factor? What issues do you see with removing the mobo and putting it into a smaller casing (aside from obvious things like where to source the casing, etc.)?
