Hi Peter, I did a manual update on that item after reading your post. As you said it downloaded something and then prompted a reboot. The update did not take on the first reboot, and I was already saying….Oh shit!. It did take on the second restart…whew!
What it appears to have done IMO is update the actual AMI bios shell itself. If I boot to BIOS at the bottom of the page I now see:
Version 2.17.1249 American Megatrends Inc.
Could someone check their Bios shell version BEFORE they try this and report your version?
Just to have the info documented I did the Bios update posted in the downloads section previously and my info is:
Core Version: 5.011
Project Version: TPad 1.02I think that those numbers are the same as before this new driver update.
Another observation is that the Bios updater is not a specific version as it seems to “phone home” to the Teclast servers to download the newest version. When I ran it a few weeks ago it prompted to turn on WiFi.
Thanks for the info Peter, as with anything the more info and user tips we have, the better.
Max
Edit: I just ran the Bios update tool and it says I am on the latest version so it does indeed “phone home”
December 27, 2015 at 1:26 pm #20071Thank you Max, for the clarification on what that firmware upgrade actually did. Like i said i am no expert here, i do have some basic knowledge but sometimes i am just messing around with stuff and do it trial and error – thankfully nothing went wrong – so far 🙂 . Gues that is the way to learn as well – the hard way.
December 27, 2015 at 2:55 pm #20077I have the same bios version Max, however the tablet arrived on the 24th and I updated the firmware at that time using the firmware update tool. So I’m assuming it just grabbed the latest version available.

After I had a look at the fuzzy, barely readable photo that I took of the install flash screen at the Teclast boot logo, it seems that it modifies the 100MB UEFI system partition. The tab boots to this and then loads windows. It does seem to boot faster now, but that may only be my imagination…lol
