You can improve the audio on the Hi8 with his windows app, Equalizer APO:

For the Hi8 you will need to Download the 32bit version
There is a GUI front end for Equalizer APO called Peace located here:

Install Equaliser APO first then copy the peace.exe file to C:\Program Files\EqualizerAPO\config
then run peace.exe from there.
I found this App mentioned in the Hi10 forum – on the Hi10 you need to install the 64 bit version of Equalizer APO (i.e. to match the windows version).
