Hopefully I’ve found the right forum but I’m running into an issue with my new Chuwi HI8.  When I booted up the android side I found that it did not have the google play store so I downloaded and installed the apk.  Unfortunately now I keep getting the ‘unfortunately google play store has stopped’ message.  So far I have not been able to download a single app on the android store.  I’ve tried all the youtube tricks of clearing cache.  Force stopping.  Uninstalling. etc.  So far no luck.  Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Kyle,

have you tried to reset your android OS?

Thanks for the reply! I have not tried to reset.  I’m new to android so didn’t know how to do that or whether or not it would mess with the ability to switch to Windows.

    Hi Kyle,

I had the same issue a few weeks ago with two new Hi8 tablets. It looks like some recent batch of tablets shipped with a bad Android os image.
I contacted Chuwi support through Amazon, and got instructions to reflash only the Android os image. It worked, and the widows image was not affected.
The correct image was dated something like 27Dec2015, so you can probably find that without contacting support.

There’s got to be a better way, but here’s what they sent me and it did work:

This is all the firmware for Hi8: http://pan.baidu.com/s/1hsdeM48

Please download it and choose android firmware. Please put the file that is script in the android firmware. When downloading the file, you may need ID and password: 15675153043 They are the same.

I sent an instruction to you.

When you finished flashing android, it may be Chinese. This is the way to change language: 设置 setting—输入法和语言 input and language—语言language—choose the language that you want.

If you have any problem, please let me know.

    Thank you very much.

    Best regards,
    Andy

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to flash that download with just those instructions. Got too complicated with most of it being in Chinese. I think I’ll have to ship it back to Amazon.
