GPU fan not working at all

Hi everyone

I just got a mi notebook pro i7 16GB from GearBest

I installed Window10 English version and the Nvidia driver, I tested running Overwatch with medium quality and it got around 50~60 fps, the temperature of GPU went up to 75C but the right fan did nothing, no sound no airflow, nothing. This doesn’t seem right as the left fan for CPU is spinning all the time.

I searched online for similar problems but most of them are fan noise related, nothing about fan not spinning at all. I tried SpeedFan but no information was shown. I can’t find related setting in Nvidia Control Panel.

Anyone know how to check if it’s a software problem or hardware problem? I’m not going to use the GPU extensively as I have my desktop for gamming, but if it’s a hardware problem I need to send it back for repair.

What does HWinfo say? You can see the fan RPM info. But it should be on when 75 degrees C… Sounds like it could be faulty. That’s some bad luck. I would open it up and check the fan spins freely and it’s plugged in. Opening it doesn’t void the warranty as you’re meant to install a second SSD if you want. I once had a new laptop that the CPU fan didn’t work on it, it had some plastic from the assembly line in the fan blades and it didn’t move at all.

Easy fix and I didn’t have to RMA it! Hopefully something simple for you. Please let us know how you get on with some follow up posts.
