Lots of threads about wifi here. I have read most of them after spending 3+ hours trying to get wifi working after Windows 1511 to 1709 upgrade. Just thought I would post what worked when the advice in these many wifi threads was not working for me.
Anyway my Hi8 had a broken digitizer that was why it skipped 2 Windows updates. Installed a new digitizer and 1709 and no touchscreen and wifi to be had. Touchscreen after awhile just started working, I never did find out why. But here is what I did for wifi.
First off I tried driver after driver and nothing worked. Restarted a dozen or more times deleting drivers as I went. Suddenly Windows update got interested after saying over and over that “I had the best driver already.” Oh really? I say. So I finally get a 2016 driver directly from Microsoft. But it didn’t work either. Darn!
Finally, close to giving up, I get rid of everything related to wifi, delete from the windows driver store, I just went postal on it so that the hardware could not even start. Then just for fun I get Microsoft to update. Worked right away.
Anyway, I have no idea if my unit has the new wifi module or whatever. Try this if all else fails. Don’t be afraid to kick the box!
