hello.
I suggest you buy a 145 x 145 mm and just cut to your size you want. I needed three layers, so it will be enough left fot you to replace the pad between the cpu/gpu and the copper heatsink. something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Arctic-Warmeleitpad-Thermal-Pad-145-mm-x-145-mm-x-0-5-mm-/161768725511?hash=item25aa2adc07:g:YbcAAOSwJMhXD717
But if you want to maximise cooling as you say, I really suggest you make your own heatsink. I have reduced my temp to 74 degress at maximum load.
No you cant just use any ssd with the right measurments. I bought one that didnt work… And I tested it in another PC so I know there wasent anything wrong with the ssd

Hey Daniel, thanks for your response.
So the 145×145 pad is enough and you just used this pad to cover the CPU? Any reason why you didn’t cover the backplate as well? ( I saw that’s what a forum member did here)
This would be my first time doing this so the heat pads alone would be enough for now as I don’t know how to create a heatsink yet.
Do you recommend any videos for me to follow?
Thanks again 🙂

Cool thanks! And what paste did you use to adhere the layers? Any “thermally conductive, electrically non-conductive” paste will do?
So what SSD did you eventually go with and worked for you?
May 22, 2016 at 12:28 pm #38245No no, no paste. The pad is INSTEAD of paste, you are not suppose to use both!
I never found a SSD that worked, I just decided to use my 128GB. So unfortunately I cant help you on that

Ohh I see. I just ordered the 145x145x.05mm pads. I haven’t received my X2 yet but basically, I just need to replace the existing thermal pad that’s already in the tablet?
I really haven’t seen instructional videos so I wouldn’t be asking otherwise.
Thanks again Daniel.

June 27, 2016 at 7:08 am #42055Hi Daniel
Got a question for you…
When you said make your own heatsink, do you have any recommendations for the materials since you’ve already made yours?
Did you follow any tutorials? If not, knowing which materials to use would help tons.
Thanks!
