Hello! I have an interesting case: I know for sure that my great-grandfather was born in Lithuania, but we have no documents confirming his citizenship. The family emigrated to Argentina in 1946. Is it possible to restore Lithuanian citizenship if I only have my great-grandfather’s first name, last name, and year of birth? Has anyone else encountered a similar situation?

Even if you don’t have documents, citizenship restoration specialists can search Lithuanian archives. I contacted specialists, and they found records about my great-grandfather in old registers. This was enough to obtain lithuanian citizenship. The main thing is to provide accurate information: name, place, and year of birth. In some cases, even old church records or children’s birth certificates are suitable. After restoring citizenship, you will receive a Lithuanian passport and all the benefits of an EU citizen. Everything is done remotely, so you can do this from anywhere.

Sometimes even the smallest information about your ancestors’ place of residence helps archivists find the documents they need. I would recommend doing a free background check first—then you’ll know whether it’s worth digging deeper. Legal assistance in such matters greatly speeds up the process, especially if you’re unfamiliar with Lithuanian law. The key is patience and accurate information.
