I got the tablet hoping I could do a few things on it. I’m usually a *nix person and was going to ditch windows and install linux. With the atom SOC advancements made I thought I could do this fairly easy. however, I’m doing something wrong and I don’t know much about intel bootloaders. i’m definitely learning as i’ve had to flash the firmware a few times and start over.
I’ll try to make this short:
I get ubuntu 15.10, (and gparted live) to boot. It almost install ubuntu but crashes at the very end when it gets to the bootloader. Not a big deal because I need to install grub’s efi 32 bin/deb I found online. So a second boot and I tell grub to boot from the new volume (the whole linux (hd1, gt5)/boot/vm… ) I try to install the grub changes and it fails. Another attempt was to create another efi volume and put the bootia32.efi in that and have that boot linux for me. But I can’t get the firmware to see it. (efi boot disabled/enabled, and playing with other firmware settings). Skipping ahead a few different attempts, I can’t get it to boot linux anymore and i’m back to where I’ll have to flash again because I can’t delete the efi volume in windows. (something about having to flip a flag first? I fumbled around in windows and saw nothing for that. I can’t delete it using diskpart, so IDK whats up)
So I thought about maybe flashing it with fastboot on the dbx side. But, it seems it doesn’t work with fastboot and you have to use some intel tool. I was going to flash remixOS first (following your guideline) but, it fails because it can’t delete that volume either.
Basically, my question is what am I doing wrong. 😀 How are you linux guys getting this too boot?
