Mi Pad 2 USB charges fine, but won't recognize sd card or support OTG

I’m having a problem getting my Mi Pad 2 to read SD cards and have any basic USB OTG functionality.  I have a 64gb Windows 10 version from banggood.com, and this is my first time using a Windows tablet.  It charges fine using the cable it came with, but won’t recognize anything I plug into it.  I’ve tried the supplied cable along with other otg adapters from previous devices, with no luck.  Is this a software issue, or is there a something in the settings that I’m missing?

I answered my own question.  I found an otg cable that worked (it was a Belkin item at Best Buy that I tried before I purchased).  I think it’s odd that the cable they provide won’t work for data transfer.
