MIUI

Hi everyone,

Here is a link to the latest version (albeit beta) MIUI 7, kernel 5.1. http://bbs.teclast.com/thread-524630-1-1.html Its much more stable than it was before, (so I don’t have any qualms about sharing the link) but it doesn’t have bluetooth or google play services (yet). You could try to use the google play installer found in the remix pc beta forum, but I’m not sure if it will work and I haven’t tried it yet, because of all the work I’ve don’t to get mine to triple boot. I don’t want to bork it. Its still in development and if any of you would like to contribute, by all means. Its helpful to have google translate at the ready, and if posting in the forum to translate your english into chinese.

You can very easily load MIUI by using the stock rom loader (if you do use the stock rom loader, you will most likely blow out windows too, just an fyi), or the one that has been modified by Mirek (hopefully he’s cool with that, this is just for testing and development). All credits for Mirek’s awesome rom loader, go to him, of course. He has gone above and beyond in terms of developing a far better version of android for all of us to dual boot into and I, for one, am very thankful and appreciative of all his hard work. That being said:
You would just replace the files downloaded at this link: http://bbs.teclast.com/thread-524630-1-1.html (same link, for those that didn’t figure that out) with the ones that are currently in place. (If you’re having a problem getting the “scratch”, lol, you’ll get it when you go to the site, just drag the mouse cursor over the “blank” space and you’ll see the 4 character, which are needed, they are the password for download the file through pan.baidu). You will need a pan.baidu account, which is easy to create, you just have to get lucky on clicking the correct box sometimes to accept what you’ve input. Sometimes its the left box, sometimes right. The same during the installation of the pan.baidu “butler”. You can try to use jdownloader to download the files, its waaaaay faster, but if it gets interruped or fails, it will not resume the download, it will start all over again, and you will start to have to enter captchas too. It will load the MIUI rom in place of mirek’s (for testing only, please make a backup of mirek’s and restore the backup through TWRP after you are done with MIUI, its not a daily driver, like Mirek’s rom is, his is stable, has much, much better performance and battery life, and I highly recommend it over the stock version and MIUI, as this has bugs and the stock version sucks with all the bloatware and doesn’t have anywhere near the kernel optimization of Mirek’s) and you will not loose your windows installation (once again, thanks to Mirek). It is nice to have an MIUI account, in MIUI, for certain things. You won’t be able to create one in MIUI, unless you happen to own a phone number in China. You can simply create one on your pc, or boot into windows on the tablet and go to the miui website and create one without a phone number there. Then go back into miui on the tablet and use those credentials. Granted MIUI is, for the most part, a chinese OS, used by chinese people for the purpose of having a chinese based android version that is primarily used by and easier to understand by, lol, chinese people.
You could even triple boot the 3, by using gparted, resizing, making sure not to blow out any of the efi loaders and modifying a grub2 loader to allow you to switch between the 2 android versions. When resizing in gparted you would resize the data partition of mireks, then move the available free space to the front of the drive. When partitions are immovable, you would “clear” the partitions, making note of their attributes and type (most will be ext4) then move the free space to the front of the disk, then set the partitions back to their correct attributes and type. You would need to make the new free space just about the same size as mireks, as you would need to create partition of roughly the same size, so that mirek’s rom loading tool would work correctly. You can’t just use the original roms “full” installation, because it blows out windows when it writes the partition table. Once you have close to identical partition setups for MIUI and Mirek’s partitions, do the MIUI rom setup with mirek’s rom loading tool. It will work if the partitions are setup exactly the same, despite the data size not being what it was originally. Trust me, I’ve done it. Then you need to setup a grub2 loader or clover or whatever other efi bootloader handling program you choose to point to the efi loaders that are installed. Simple, huh? If you don’t want to pull your hair out and yell at your tablet for a few days, then don’t try to triple boot it, its a royal pain in the as*.
