Interesting. So you did not have to install the rEFInd Boot Manager to get Linux working?  So Xubuntu 18.04 (and perhaps other Ubuntu versions?) have changed something in the Kernel and/or Grub boot manager that makes it work now.  If so, that’s great.  And the touchpad (on your v5 EZB3) is working fine on Xubuntu?  Does suspend/resume work fine on Xubuntu 18.04?

No rEFInd indeed. Seems like 18.04 already have what we need. Touchpad works good and no problems with suspending. Works like a regular laptop with some nasty DPI problems.

DPI problems?  To help others trying to get this to work, can you say what is the version of your BIOS?

Yes, having 1920×1080 on 13.3″ needs at least 125% scaling on windows and ~128 dpi on xubuntu. On windows there are a lot of elements that are blurry, especially favicons, some apps (eg. Reaper) and app installers. On xubuntu there are less blurry elements, but they also happen. Those are the numbers I’ve found in bios:

    • Core version: 5.12
    • Uefi 2.5, PI: 1.4
    • Project version: Jumper 10x.P9.WP3132.N
    • Build date: 02/01/2018 16:10

    Hope it helps.

Did you buy it from Gearbest or somewhere else?  I had bad luck with mine. Worked great for two months then died for seemingly no reason.

UPDATE: It’s almost a year since I’ve got EZB3p and the battery is mostly dead. Fully charged device remains usable for 15-20 minutes. Also I’ve formatted all the drives and moved Win10 to SSD drive. Sometimes the BIOS settings disappear and I can’t boot up Win10. 2-3 resets seems to help and it loads as usual.

    Cheers!

The battery died. It’s doubled its size and crooked the laptop body. GB agreed to send me a new battery to replace swollen one. I finally start to wonder why haven’t I just simply bought an after-market laptop from bigger brands 😛

The Lenovo IdeaPad 330S-14IKB (81F4) with 8th-gen Core i3-8130U is a good deal. You can get it in various configuration of HD and/or NVMe SSD.
Or if you want bigger 15″ screen and 8th-gen Core i5, the 330S-15IKB.  Memory can be upgraded to 20GB RAM.  And at least with this you won’t ever have a problem getting replacement parts.  Also aluminum body and runs Linux perfectly.  Even the lowest priced model with Pentium 4415U CPU performs better than the Celeron N4100.
