New ezbook 3 pro – Help Needed (plus LINUX)

Hi guys!.
I have a new ezbook 3 pro arriving any day now (ordered at 4-1-2018 from gearbest so I am assuming it will be V5)
I also ordered this RECADATA SATA M.2 Internal SSD 120GB (https://www.gearbest.com/hdd-ssd/pp_1337559.html) hopping it will just work.
Anyway….

Since I  haven’ t use any version of windows since 2002 and I am very font of tweaking, I would like your help on the following topics.

1. THERMAL. I will not do any gaming on this machine so the copper shim mod is not necessary. However, I will put some thermal pad between the bottom cover and the thermal plate for these two to come into contact.
So…. that width is necessary? Are 10mm width enough? Should it be more?

2. SSD: I will put a RECADATA SATA M.2 Internal SSD 120GB inside. Its a 2280 ssd. Do I need to cut/trim the metal base of the screw that holds the 2242 in place? Will an insulation  with an electrical tape suffice?

3. LINUX: Using windows will be unbearable for me. Hackintosh is, sadly, not an option. So that leaves us with LINUX. My preferred distro is manjaro. Since searching of this laptop, I have read alot and I know a member has posted a guide for manjaro.
So….. a) What is the current situation on the trackpad issue. Is it still dead. Is it working with a specific kernel? Is there another way around?
b) What about battery life with LINUX? Is it bad ? Did you do anything  specific to improve it?
c) Do you think that we can reliably use internal EMMC as /home. Did you encounter any problems with speed and data loss?

You’re lucky if this is your preferred linux distro, since current release of Manjaro works out of the box. Tried the XFCE edition from stick, no issues.
(Only thing you have to activate is tap-to-click, that’s not Majaro’s default option for touchpad.)

Installation was smooth, with gui or text based installer.

Follow up:

Battery life is quite good on this laptop, whether on Windows or Xubuntu. I can’t tell what it looks like with Manja, since Manjaro is not my preferred distro and I uninstalled it as soon as I knew how to make Xubuntu work.

eMMC as /Home shouldn’t be an issue from my perspective. eMMC is always present, from time to time BIOS seems to “forget” the SSD, but no data losses whatsoever. I have all programs and OS’s on my SSD (Win10 and Xubuntu) and use the eMMC as “data exchange platform” only (pictures, documents, downloads…)

Still, I’m happy with Xubuntu, since Manjaro is not the right distro for me…
