Windows recently released a new 10 build, adding features like auto-launching the keyboard and Edge extensions. However, there is a problem.
The iWork 8 AIR only has 2G on the 15G system partition of hard drive space free on the windows partition, and this build finally enforces the 20G minimum for a 64-bit OS. Therefore this tablet will no longer take windows updates. Yes, that’s right. Microsoft has effectively doomed all of these 32G Chinese dual-boot tablets to a life of obscurity with no more significant updates. There are solutions, hopefully. 1 is to (obviously) kill all the ridiculous partitions soaking up tons of space and make it a windows-only tablet. However I really enjoy the android side of this thing, and would like to keep it if at all possible.
Does anyone know if there is a way to do this? There is about 7G free on the android OS, but 5.1 can install apps to the SD card so this is essentially unnecessary free space. There are utilities that can shrink FAT32 partitions and Windows can use its own built-in utilities to increase NTFS partition sizes. my question would be, would it brick either OS to do this? I also notice in the windows side in Disk Manager, that the android partitions all show as 100% empty. I am skeptical that this is a solution. I also wonder, are there ROM files for each OS, or at least the android one? If so, one might effectively delete the android partition, recreate it smaller, then use windows to pull the unpartitioned space over into the main NTFS partition.
I love this thing, and would very much like to have windows updates as well as maintain dual boot status. Please advise if anybody knows better than I do.
EDIT: The only other option is going the 32-bit route. However, there will more assuredly be driver issues if I am not mistaken. Essentially, nothing would work. I do not believe this is a viable option.
