That does seem pretty expensive, especially if the keyboard base is on top of that. Surely 2GB more RAM and 32GB more flash can’t be adding $200US to the price. Hopefully the final prices will be more reasonable – otherwise it’s going to have a pretty hard time competing with the Core-M tablets.
September 8, 2015 at 11:36 am #11122I’d say 199 is too much for the 2GB/32GB versions as well, considering the price of X98 Pro (even with its problems)
September 8, 2015 at 1:24 pm #11136I’d be more concerned about the X98 Air. 2GB/64GB for a significantly lower price than the 2GB/32GB W1S. Lower performance, of course, and no USB3, but it’s a much more reliable option (in that lots of people have them and the problems are largely solved). The X98 Pro is nice, but it’s quite a lot more expensive than the base W1S model.
September 8, 2015 at 1:51 pm #11138$170-$189 I think it will be on Ali Express and other retailers. 4GB Z8500 version for $399 is crazy, no one will buy it for that. The Asus T100ha will be much cheaper than this. The 64GB version should be around $299 (With dock) I think.
But this is just sellers taking advantage of first buyers. I’ll be getting one of these to review. I just hope Pipo have improved their build qaulity, the W8 and W4S were average.

Currently testing: LG G8X & Redmi K30September 19, 2015 at 11:23 pm #11666the W1S is up for preorder on geekbuying… eta is 8th of october. the specs are a mess, it says the z8500 version has 64gb storage but 2 ram… i bet that’s an error. however it says it’s dual os with android 5.1 which is nice. 200$ for the 2/32gb and 260$ for the 4/64gb. i’m keeping an eye on this one… if it’s a good tablet i will buy it
September 20, 2015 at 8:53 am #11670Hmm, no 3G/4G on those models. I’ll go back to looking at the X98 Air 3G, I guess.
September 20, 2015 at 11:47 am #11672Geekbuying never included or sell the keyboards for models like this, so stupid of them. And their last tablets had kmspico activated Windows installations. Wonder if this will be the case again?

wow that is bad. i tought they were a trustworthy seller
September 29, 2015 at 8:03 pm #12176I never had a problem with GeekBuying and my Chuwi Hi8 came with an activated copy of Windows.
Does the free OEM licensing work for 10.1″ tablets? I’ve heard that manufacturers get legitimate versions of Windows free from MS but only if they are 10″ and under. Does that include 10.1″ tablets? If not maybe that’s why these are coming with KMSPico activated versions?
You would think it wouldn’t be worth the trouble to steal the keys and then re-install Windows on all the 10.1″ Windows tablets they get in stock. When you can buy a valid license key online for only $30, from shady places, then how could it really be worth it?
If the licensing isn’t free for the manufacturer and GeekBuying is claiming that the tablets come with valid versions of Windows then that’s false advertising and I could see them losing a lot of customers for that. It would definitely cause me to stop using them.

Currently testing: LG G8X & Redmi K30October 9, 2015 at 2:35 am #12884Chris, if possible, I would really love to see how Linux runs on these new crop of Cherry Trail machines. As these 2-in-1’s are essentially touch screen notebooks and inexpensive they are a natural fit for Linux I think as 2GB/32GB is very usable for most distro’s and 4GB is plenty. I’m starting to see some Atom based “compute sticks” and TV-boxes shipping with Linux, albeit not many… yet. Maybe try booting Linux on a UEFI USB boot drive so you can play with it without installing it and mucking up the partitions/config.

I’m not into Linux much, only really use Centos 6 on my server here. What distro do you recommend I try? Ubuntu MATE?
