Hello.
I’ve recently bought a Cube i9 and i noticed that when i connect a hard drive in the USB type C ou even at the regular USB 3.0 port, the wifi signal is affected and usually my wireless connection drop. When i try to connect again i only see just a few wifi networks from my neighbours (4 or 5) but as soon as i disconnect the hard drive ou thumb drive i am able to see a lot more networks (more than 12) and can connect without any problems at my home wifi network.
Anyone else with this problem? How do i solve this?
Thank you
June 23, 2016 at 12:14 pm #41817I have a USB C flash drive permanently plugged into my i9 and have no issues with wifi, very strong even in places where my phone/laptop struggle! Hope you find the problem with yours.
June 23, 2016 at 2:13 pm #41824I only have issues when my external western digital passport usb 3.0 is connected.
After googling i found this.

Will try with an older external usb 2.0 hard drive and see what happens with the wifi signal…
June 28, 2016 at 8:07 pm #42214Hello,
Tried with a Western Digital 500Gb USB 2.0 on the USB 3.0 port and also on type C with an adapter and no problems with the Wifi…
It seems to be some sort of interference only when using USB 3.0 hard drive.
Anyone else has this issue?
July 12, 2016 at 12:34 am #43192It might be that the 3.0 is drawing too much power away from the wifi module. Have you tried charging the device while connecting the 3.0 drive and then testing the wifi?
July 12, 2016 at 6:48 pm #43297I already tried using the usb 3.0 hard drive while charging the tablet, and the problem persists making me believe that must have to be some sort of intereference with the chip while working at 3.0 speeds… 🙁
Also my wifi card it’s only able to connect at 65Mbs on wifi N routers… All other equipment i have (laptop and cellphone) are able to connect at higher speeds like 130Mbs. Do you think it’s a driver issue or it’s a hardware limitation?
July 13, 2016 at 10:40 pm #43394That’s wierd, I’ve had to plug my usb 3.0 flash drive, because I had to reinstall, without any hitches in wifi speed.
July 16, 2016 at 5:12 pm #43650Guys what is the maximum speed you can get with wi-fi? If i get this right, the wi-fi module is connected through USB 2.0 and thats the reason for low data rates?
July 16, 2016 at 6:35 pm #43658I think you are right. I also had the same thought… My maximum speed right next to the router is about 45Mbs download usually around 30Mbs. My desktop on wired network achives more than 120Mbs.
July 16, 2016 at 9:16 pm #43674Its those things that make me hesisitate buying it. I want high speeds on my lan. PS4 remote play, ftp over wifi. Right now i am on 802.11n @150Mbits/S
Can a NGFF wifi card be used on the free slot?
Pffff 🙁
July 16, 2016 at 10:53 pm #43691I think i solved the problem after reading some articles on the internet.
A lot of people are complaining about the same interference issue on some well known brands of laptops and some have found that USB 3.0 norm is the fault of poor wifi connections, as it makes some signal noise around 2.4ghz band interfering with wifi signals.
After reading this i went to the kitchen, grabed a small piece of tinfoil and wrapped it around of my western digital 3.0 hard drive cable…
Without the tinfoil my cube could only see 2 or 3 wireless networks available but after wrapping the cable i could see all the networks around my apartment (more than 12) and was able to connect to my home router.
So the problem is not on the tablet but on the connecting cables of existing/older 3.0 hard drives that might have some NON SHIELDED cables. Try to replace them and see if it solves the problem of poor wifi signal.
Regarding speeds i think 45Mbs is the maximum this wifi card is able to connect… Any solution on how to improve this would be great 🙂

Do you mean 45MB/s or 45Mbit/s ?

Nice. On windows wi-fi status what speed does it display?
July 17, 2016 at 9:48 am #43730The top connection speed i’ve seen so far on windows wi-fi status (only tested on 2 wifi N routers) is 65Mbps.
