Power button not working – have to use reset

That’s why I want to find a way to wake mine using the bezel button. Do you think it’s broken? Is it loose or feeling strange?

I bought a broken i7 book a couple of months ago, and have subsequently taken it apart. The power switch, bios reset, and volume rockers are all on the same switch. This is not a typical mechanical switch, it is a ribbon switch. I suspect the tablet I bought had a bad ribbon switch too, as in the beginning, I could turn it on sometimes too. I just got a new i7 book two days ago and I am interested in finding a way to bypass using this button too. I also put a couple of different battery monitor applications on and it says the battery is 14% worn. This has been reported numerous times from other users and no real conclusions have been made, except to look for a replacement to have as backup. So far no one has been able to find the exact replacement and if you don’t get the exact replacement the controller card may not allow it to function. Many questions remain, including the warranty and how that might ever be used. I has to cost a fortune to attempt to send to China and how long would it take and your personal data on the internals would be a question. We have taken a gamble, and hopefully we can find some workarounds together.

Thanks for the follow up, the weird thing is that I can use the power button to turn on the tablet but only when I hit reset first which doesn’t make sense.  How I start the machine with the same button and yet can’t do it without resetting so odd.  I wonder if there’s a BIOS or something that can reset the driver or power management itself?

Did you open the case and try to operate the button directly?

Oh perfect, I’ll try this. I didn’t open it up yet, figuring it’s software related being the button works but only upon reset. I guess the first thing to do would get a new ribbon button such as via the link and try that out.  Thanks!

anyone have any luck installing the new power ribbon. I got mine today and looks like the old ribbon is glued to the board inself and I’d have to rip it off to glue a new one.  I must work because I use the power button to turn on the tablet after hitting reset.  The tablet also makes these weird power jerking sounds and sort of jumps around sometimes when I’m using it.  It’s like a glitch or something.  Maybe I have a lemon….

My new power button was supposed to arrive in the mail today. It landed in New York last week. It landed in my city Atl., GA, 3 days ago. Then it got sent to Maryland and now Virginia. I don’t know when it’s gonna show, but it’s getting the grand tour, for sure, but will update a.s.a.p.
